Do i get billed for an emoji when i text?

Simple question, are emojis chargable on a text message?

i know pictures are a 40p charge, but what about an emoji.  Chargable or not.

Depends on how they are sent.

if sent in WhatsApp for example they use data.  Same for iMessage from iPhone to iPhone but if converted to MMS that is chargeable.

Disable MMS if you want to be sure.

Hi @R+T+Ralph  i have never been charged for including an emoji in a standard text message with sky, however some people have so to be sure I would do as advised by @PandJ2020

If by emoji you mean one of these 😎 then you shouldn't be unless you use to many or send a large text as it gets converted to an MMS message. I've never been charged in using these in a text message but each emoji does take up about 3 characters of the message I believe. So you just need to make sure that when using them you keep an eye on the character count when typing and if it gets converted to an MMS.

I was wondering this too. I just changed over from TalkTalk where they did charge for emojis. I would get a warning about it though before I posted my text. I have just used a 👍 in a text earlier and I got no warning from sky so I'm hoping that they are free?

Many years ago people used to be charged for emoji @georgygirl  but I have never been charged for sending them by sky.

Not sure what is going on with Sky now?

I recently got charged £5.60 for sending 7 photos (80p per photo) via iMessage from my iPad.

I do not have a data plan for my iPad, just WiFi, though I do have a data plan for my iPhone.

This charge was listed under my iPhone cellular usage.

Sky have not refunded the charge, but have applied a £6 credit as a one off gesture.

Apparently, I should now only use WhatsApp for picture messages, rather than the free to use iMessage, which comes with every iPhone and iPad Sky sells.
