I have been charged an additional £24 for 'failed messages'. What's that even about? It seems like whenever there's a bad connection and a message fails to send and I get charged for trying to resend it??? And apparently the messages are unlimited ???

For those covered under your package, yes. (Actually not 'unlimited' as there's a fair usage policy)
