Charged for roaming but it’s switched off

I'm currently abroad and made sure to switch off data roaming on my Sky sim. I installed an eSIM for a local provider and all was well until this morning when I got a notification that roaming passport plus was activated. I've double checked all settings on my

phone but Sky roaming is still off and my Mobile Data connection is set to my eSIM. Obviously I'll call Sky when I get back to the UK but has anyone else had this happen or know the reason?

@Landor

Did you switch it off before you left the UK and you didn't make a call or send a text via it, if not then when you are back in the UK you will have to call Sky to speak to them about this,

Yes, it's always off as I use local esims that I purchase through the Airalo app before I leave the UK. I will contact them when I get back next week. Never had this before.

Turning off data roaming will not stop cellular connections...  (Which can still trigger the passport)

The Sky SIM must have connected to a cellular service - if it hadn't then you couldn't be charged.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers
