Can’t make or recieve calls

My sons phone had suddenly stopped working, he cannot make calls or receive calls unless he is connected to the internet through WhatsApp. 
his sim has plenty of data on it but won't let him use his mobile data what's going on?

Hi I've checked and no issues. Could sky have disconnected him sim?

Only if your bill isn't paid @Terri32 , sims can develop faults though. Have you tried his sim in a different phone ? If it's the same in another phone then call sky on 150 to order a replacement sim to see if that helps.

I am also having this issue with my sky mobile along with my wife and both kids.  None of us can make or receive calls and and can only make them through WhatsApp.  Bills also up to date and when I look at our mobile data on MySky, all are reading 0, even though there is 203GB in our piggy bank.  Can't even transfer any across, so looks like some issue on  sky's side.  This has gone on since 20th June and despite many calls to Sky, I actually don't think they know what the issue is.  It's not a coverage problem as I can't make calls anywhere, yet my father in law lives near us and his Sky mobile connects fine.  I'm thinking we'll have to close the account and look elsewhere now as this has gone on long enough.
