The problem in that news article is an issue that if affecting customers today.  It's not dating back to the start of this thread.

My phone can’t call out and my mobile data isn’t working

Not able to make phone calls

I have not been able to make phone calls and it either says that the person is busy on another call or I've dialled an incorrect number. I've checked if there is any issues in my area and it says there is none. I've also shut my phone down, checked the SIM card isn't damaged and reset my network settings but it is still saying the same thing. Any advice would be great, thank you.

I've been having the same problem since yesterday along with a few other people I've spoken too. One seems to think it's connected to updates on 5G and across lots of networks and not just Sky?

i am also having the same issue since yesterday and still ongoing today - i cant make or recieve calls says dialled incorrect number or user busy then cuts off.  i can't call Sky as it does the same thing.  Has anyone actually heard from Sky about this issue and when it will be resolved?

See the post from @GD1 currently showing as the answer. Yesterdays issue is/was with other providers, not Sky. It was reported on the news.

The short answer is no .

 

sky are hiding behind 'it's someone else's fault we can do nothing .'

 However we pay Sky for a service which , for whatever reason , they are not providing ., neither are they communicating directly with their customers and are impossible to contact . The online helper , as soon as you declare your reason for contact as can't make or receive calls , puts up a message saying we have no one available here's a link -which us of no use whatsoever - and on it goes . And this appalling disregard for Sky customers cannot  be blamed on a third party .

We are aware of a widespread UK Mobile Network issue that is affecting many user's ability to call out, there are teams looking into this and we will update you when we can.

Just realised problem is the same again saying incorrect number or failed call.  No idea when it will be sorted but sky should be communicating with us and compensating. Think I have a few months before renewal so may be time to review service provider !
