Buying a contract as a present

If I'm getting a contract phone as a present for someone for Christmas does the phone need to have the SIM card put into the phone and the phone turned on and charged straight away or can I leave the phone and sim unopened until Christmas Day for the person receiving it to open and sort out? I know the contract and billing will start now I'm fine with that just would rather not open the phone to set it up if I don't have to.

Hi @Livvy2  you need to activate the sim within31 days or it will drop off the account so as long as you take that into account when ordering.

While the phone can be left off you do have 30 days to activate the sim or the sim will be cancelled. For the phone you will be charged for it once you receive it and for the sim once it has been activated.

Re: Buying a contract as a present

Ah brilliant. So does that have to be activated by putting the SIM in the phone?
