If I'm getting a contract phone as a present for someone for Christmas does the phone need to have the SIM card put into the phone and the phone turned on and charged straight away or can I leave the phone and sim unopened until Christmas Day for the person receiving it to open and sort out? I know the contract and billing will start now I'm fine with that just would rather not open the phone to set it up if I don't have to.

Ah brilliant. So does that have to be activated by putting the SIM in the phone?
