Backing up my personal data?

I have received my new Iphone 15 in a swap deal but the packaging in which i am to send back my old Iphone 12 states that i should first back up my personal data but i dont know what this means, please help.

You can back up your data via an iphone by using icloud:

Best way is to use the transfer wizard to move everything from old to new phone.

 

Once successful, factory reset the old phone before returning.

 

But a backup is always recommended - the iCloud is an option for this.

 

Your personal data will include emails, photos, videos, phone numbers, messages etc.
