Activating eSIM before new mobile arrives

New mobile from Sky not yet delivered and want to port mobile number from different provider. If I activate my Sky eSIM before the phone arrives will this mean I will lose connectivity on my old phone?

If this number you want to move is on a different network then when it ports to Sky it will stop working via the sim you have now.
