Abroad when my contract ends

With Sky Mobile, I have a sim-only contract, as well as a phone contract that came with a 100MB sim included.

My sim-only contract is coming to an end in a few months but I will be abroad when this happens. I therefore have a few questions based on this.

1. What happens when my contract is coming to an end? Will Sky send me their current sim-only deals?

2. If I don't want any of those deals, how do I make sure my plan with Sky is cancalled right at the end of the 12 months? I don't want to end up paying the increased price out of contract.

3. Will I have to phone Sky at any point during this? I assume that would cause issues if abroad. Thankfully, esims exist now so I don't think switching provider will cause much issue having to wait for a new sim in the post.

1. What happens when my contract is coming to an end? Will Sky send me their current sim-only deals? No, it is up to you to check.

2. If I don't want any of those deals, how do I make sure my plan with Sky is cancalled right at the end of the 12 months? I don't want to end up paying the increased price out of contract. You ned to call Sky to cancel a sim only plan.

3. Will I have to phone Sky at any point during this? I assume that would cause issues if abroad. Thankfully, esims exist now so I don't think switching provider will cause much issue having to wait for a new sim in the post.  You only need to call if you're cancelling, if you port to another provider a cancellation isn't needed.

Re: Abroad when my contract ends

When would I need to switch to another provider to prevent being charged an early termination fee but also make sure I'm not charged for another month when my contract ends/

@Lightning350  To port away it normally takes  3 to 5 working days.

Re: Abroad when my contract ends

So when would that need doing? Is there a period before my end of contract where I can start this process without being charged an early termination fee?

@Lightning350  3 to 5 days before the end of your minimum term.

Re: Abroad when my contract ends

Thank you! Hopefully it all works out in the end

If I do decide to stay with Sky if they have a good offer on a new contract, what is the process of going through with this at the end of my current contract?

@Lightning350  All sim  deals are normally for new sims only not existing sims, unless there is an option to upgrade/downgrade your current data plan within your account to a cheaper deal you would end up needing to order a new sim, also you need to be aware you can't port a number from one Sky sim to another.

Re: Abroad when my contract ends

Thank you!

Seems strange that Sky doesn't seem to be too encouraging at getting people to stay with them as there are far better offers out there at the moment from rival companies, but they will still be getting my money from the phone contract anyway.

Just for clarity, the contract doesn't automatically end - if you have any minimum term discounts then they may be removed and the contract continues on a rolling basis until you take action.  Checking future bills will give an indication on any price changes...

Re: Abroad when my contract ends

Yeah, might have not been the most clear with my language but thankfully was aware of that. The 12 months is just a minimum. But would rather not pay the increased price at all so just wanted to make sure I can leave beforehand.

I have just had a thought about the PAC and STAC codes and from looking online, I can only get them when in the UK. So may just have to sort this out before I leave, even if paying the early termination fee.

Re: Abroad when my contract ends

I assume cancelling early with my sim only contract won't create any issues with my phone contract? No need for anything to change with that.

Ok.  You have to give notice 31 days, so to avoid any increase this would have to be done at the start of month 11 of the contract...

Bear in mind that the billing system doesn't always work as you'd hope and you may have to pay past the end of any cessation date (which will be credited in the following bill).

No, the device and data plan are separate.

It shouldn't do as your sim and phone contracts are seperate.
