4 days with no data, coverage, can’t make calls

I'm beside myself with anger and annoyance. 
I was recently mid-sold (by Sky) a new SIM card which would mean a new number, which was absolutely not mentioned when they were talking me in to it. Tried to activate it, couldn't. That's when the new phone number became the issue. I actually managed to get to speak to someone and her advice was to go back to using my original SIM card and she would match the GB and price to the mid-sold card. 
All well and good, but now my original SIM card doesn't work. I've been left for 4 days without any coverage, mobile data and I can't make phone calls. I'm beyond livid. Because I can't make calls, I can't contact Sky - I've filled in a complaint form and done everything possible to make contact. I don't have a landline and I'm at my wits end - so sorry to rant on! I need to make an appointment at hospital, it's sooo frustrating! Please help!! @@Sky

Have you tried turning the phone off then on? If yes then try resetting the network settings. 
Ensure the SIM card is inserted correctly too.

Thank you so much for your reply. I'm going to try your suggestion about the network settings, the other 2 things I've done.
