Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

@Rscoy I'm aware that sky staff get a staff discount but less and less staff are Sky staff not only customer facing call centres but product development and trouble shooters are becoming more removed but I guess that's natural development as more and more services share the gobal tech from the parent companies.  In reality sky and others have always used products of others to transmit and receive their services but simple things like subtitles and accessible GUI text sizes show it's not a capability Skys own staff have or the altlest power to impliment them.

All the UK call centres are Sky staff - the overseas ones used for overflow calls obviously aren't. Even part time customer services staff get free Sky TV - https://sky.wd3.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/sky_careers/job/Dunfermline/Part-Time-Customer-Service-Advis... , not just a discount.

Q development team is still UK based (developing code for all countries using that hardware) and a fair chunk of Glass/Stream development is done in the UK too.

As the UK is the first market to roll out the new global platform, the UK team have a lot of input into how the product's future development will go. I met some of them at Osterley last year and this very subject was discussed.

The teams responsible for the apps are definitely UK based too and are Sky employees, not third parties. Again, met some during a superuser visit last year.

@rscott @Not sure why your arguing my terminology nothing I have said is wrong or misleading.  I said uk staff get a discount aka reduced or free stuff which you seem to agree, I said UK technical /development staff have both been reduced and have less say in the product which is clearly true if they're now only part of the bigger team (leading or not)  the fact that essential accessibility items (agreed by Sky at top levels including law compliance teams) have not been implemented many years after not only the product was released but also raised by customers and Skys accessible partners only shows they're eithe incapable or unwilling to effect changes they not only agree are needed but deem important.  There's no way of avoiding the fact Sky Q is less consumer friendly and accessible that the Sky+ generation of equipment (what 22 years old now) now I will admit some of that is due to the lack of international agreement/incomplete international formats on things like subtitles but that why someone like Sky should take the lead and set minimum standards.  Now that said SkyQ clearly has many advantages that Plus didn't have and Stream/Glass the same but the tech development is still far behind and more costly than others but let's face it the likes of Google / Apple / Amazon have a far bigger budget.  Some people on here and DS think I have it in for Sky I don't I use there product daily and pay to do so why because I believe it to be the best product and or value for money. That doesn't mean I don't have constructive criticism and or valid points on how it could do better.

The Sky Q app did not work properly for many people, including me, so I used the Sky + app, but that has now been stopped too (from 31st May). The Sky Go app does have remote record facility on it. Hopefully this works, unlike the Q app which never did for me!
