iPad returns Sky Go error message “your device needs to be authorised”

I could use Sky Go on my old iPad. On my new one I get the above error message.

 

Sky Go works fine on my iPhone using the same WiFi. I can use other on demand services like iPlayer and ITVX on the new iPad.

 

i have:

- restarted the iPad.

- signed in and out of Sky Go.

- logged off and bck on to WiFi

- removed the device from "manage devices" in Sky Go (it reappears but I still get the error message).

- deleted and reinstalled the app.

It was resolved but I'm afraid I don't know what changed. I was due a call with the Sky technical team and tried it a couple off days before and it worked. In the previous two weeks I'd tried, several times:

- deleting and reinstalling the app.

- removing the iPad from "my devices" on the app.

- rebooting the iPad.

- rebooting the router.

- forgetting the home network and relinking to it.

 

In the same period my partner's iPad and my iPhone on the same network were fine with Sky Go.

I had this problem in my iPhone but not my iPad. It was really starting to annoy me until I looked at the differences between phone and iPad.  I'm running Norton 360 on my iPhone which includes a VPN, Identity Security  plus many other security features.  Having tried WiFi and cellular connection with no luck, I turned off the VPN and Sky Go works.  🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

 

Now to calm down after multiple deletes of the device, removing and reinstalling the app and numerous restarts of the phone!!

 

It would appear Sky blocks access via a VPN so if you have one, turn it off when using the app.
