I read on a Sky website page that I can watch Sky Q recordings on Sky Go whilst on the same network as the Sky Q box. What if I'm away from home (though still in the UK)? I can be on the Internet but not on my home network.

The only product which ever offered such 'placeshifting' was the now defunct Slingbox.

Note that you can download most (but not all) Q recordings to a Go device while at home and then watch those elsewhere using the stored data if you have the Go Extra product.

Which roughly translated says: "If I'm in the same building and on the same network, I no longer need Sky Go to see my recordings. Then I can watch straight away via my sky q receiver. What nonsense. Sky, please stop talking about innovative and modern technology. This is the Middle Ages."

Right!... Whay absolutely rubbish... Seriously.. than what's even the point having Sky Go if you're able to watch on a normal tv... I thought the entire point was that you could watch your programmes AWAY from home... hence... the "GO" bit 😳🤣🤣🤦♀️ x

Downloading before leaving home is the middle ages, to borrow a phrase from earlier. What about programs that are recorded after leaving home, how would I access these?

You can't access them until the app is on
the same network that your Sky Q box is.

Quite possibly, but no effective alternative has emerged and as I noted above back in 2023 the only longstanding 'placeshifting' system (Slingbox) closed down in 2022. Historically any such platform has been hampered by a combination of slow outgoing broadband speeds and the rights-holder requirement for broadcasters to enforce HDCP encryption on their content which isn't possible over a retransmitted IP video feed: while the former has now largely been solved by FTTP, the latter is still very much in play.
It's of course also worth noting that all current Sky Q hardware is incapable of such a task, and is now itself an end-of-life product last respecified in 2019.

A data file created from broadcast content (aka a 'recording') being held on a Sky box hard drive isn't a 'programme' in this context. It can be viewed on the television connected to that box (and Mini boxes) after decoding by the box itself, and also becomes playable when transferred to a Go app device, but file transfer is only possible when both hard drive and Go client are on the same local network.
When away from the subscription address, live and on-demand content is streamed into the Go client directly from Sky servers: it's not coming from the home hardware.
