When I go into landscape on both apps they either crash or are in 3 quarter  view.

Have you tried deleting the app then rebooting your device before installing it again to see if this fixes this issue ?

Yes I have, even gave my phone a reset, still the same.

I had something similiar, it was fixed by going to the settings (pull down from home page) and turning on auto rotate, now I can get the Sky app movies, etcetera in landscape full screen mode.
