Sky Go software

Why, given that we a re paying over £100 per month is the Sky Go software so appalling. I get Netflix, Prime TV, Apple Tv and all of them give a far superior streaming service.

My son, who writes financial software for a living, could probably knock out better software over a weekend.

Why have we not been given a newly written bug-free Sky Go to match up with all the other steaming services?

Because Sky can't be bothered. I am serioudly considering cancelling my service. If Sky can't be bothered with its customers perhaps I should learn to live without!

Presumably because Sky Television is a regional hardware platform, not a global streaming service, and really doesn't seek to compete with the software streamers you mentioned...

Historically Go has always been the 'free' add-on to Sky satellite service and only used by a relatively small percentage of the customer base, so was never prioritised within the company.

These days under Comcast ownership, I suspect that's even more the case.

Re: Sky Go software

I guess you are correct. Most of Sky programmming allready comes over the internet rather than dishes these days so I just thought it was time for a software upgrade.

I forgot that Sky already makes so much money that it doesn't need to care about customers.

It will cost them long term as users will stream paid material over any of the other platforms before Sky.

Pity really.

@radagast

I'd also observe that Sky Group has a dedicated streaming application in NowTV: Go is very much a legacy from the Sky Q era before acquisition by Comcast in 2018.

I think it's worth remembering that it doesn't necessarily make sense for Sky to even attempt to compete with global streamers when it's inherently a European operation (and actually operating in only six countries at that)

'Netflix, Prime TV, Apple Tv' have a potential user base of billions: for Sky the maximum is at least two orders of magnitude smaller.

Re: Sky Go software

Ah, now I understand.  If I want to watch the Sky stuff I already pay £110+ per month for while I am on the move it will cost another £15 per month!  No wonder they won't update the software.

Thanks
