SKY GO app doesn't launch on MacBook Pro

I'ms quite annoyed and actually mad about this. EVERY SINGLE TIME i'm out from home and i need to use sky go to watch F1 the app doesn't open on mac. when i'm home i never open it but as far as i remember it works over wifi, it doesn't launch on hotspot.

WHY ON EARTH it doesn't open?? please don't tell me the normal stuff like remove the app resintall remove folder from library folder because i do it every time and it doesn't work...... PLEASE DEVELOPER, I PAY FOR THE APP AND IT DOESN'T WORK OVER HOTSPOT???

I don't know if this helps, but I've just had a similar problem.  I'm in hospital and also wanted the F1, the Wi-Fi is very good and other TV apps work great.

Through trying everything I could think of I tried turning Wi-Fi off on my phone and then connecting the iPad to my iPhone on 4G and then Sky Go worked.

So as you say it doesn't work with some hotspots which is really annoying, but at least I found a way to get it working.  I hope Sky fix this issue soon.

so sorry for your hospital situation.. hope you'll get better soon..

yeah it's unbelievable, we pay for a service and most of the time when you need it it doesn't work.. and i won't say anything abou the resolution problem, when you conenct a mac via HDMI to the tv it kind of stop working becasue sky reduces the resolution so you're not even able to see the name of the driver on the left..... sky is so annoying.....................................

I suspect that's a configuration issue on the managed hospital network rather than in the Go app itself.  When I ran such a network I could never get Go to work: the closest was advertising would play, but no actual content.

Re: SKY GO app doesn't launch on MacBook Pro

@TimmyBGood thanks for your reply.  I don't have any specific network experience in this area, and I don't want to unnecessarily knock Sky - but logic points to Sky Go as the culprit here.  I am currently watching TNT sports on the Discovery + app (subscription is via Sky) on the hospital network with no issues whatsoever - it's also fine with BBC Sport, iPlayer, ITXx, Netflix etc and all the other TV apps I have tried.   So my point is why won't Sky Go work where all the other apps do?  And that seems to be backed up by others having SkyGo problems on various other networks.  I think Sky should acknowledge there is a problem here and make efforts to resolve this.

@Gordon461

I tend to agree, but Sky doesn't have to make Go compatible with every type of network management (in my case it was content filtering through a Smoothwall appliance) because they don't promise that Go works under all conditions.  It would be nice if they did, but experience suggests Go currently receives very little love from Comcast and anyway isn't by itself a subscription service.

I did get as far as strongly suspecting the issue is something to do with the DNS resolution change between the injected advertising and the content delivery itself, but fortunately for my own peace of mind and associated insomnia that's no longer my profession ; )
