Sky Glass without a subscription

I am giving my sky glass to my son who does not have a sky subscription.  

Can he use it to access apps such as Netflix?

 Can he watch life tv?  

What does he have to do to make this possible?

I think the set does have to be associated with a Sky account to be able to access the on-board apps: it doesn't need a Sky content subscription for that though.

Otherwise it's just a big monitor with a digital terrestrial tuner and basic free-to-air EPG.

Thanks for the links.  One link says the following.  When it says "once activated" does that mean he will have to activate it even though he will not be get a sky subscription?

Sky Glass without a Sky TV subscription will work like a normal TV.

Once it's activated, you’ll be able to:

• Watch live and on demand TV through TV apps, like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Netflix and more.
• Connect other devices like your games console or DVD player through a HDMI port.

If you don’t activate your Sky Glass TV, you’ll only be able to connect your other devices. Access to TV apps like Netflix won't be available.

Any Sky Stream pucks you have won't work without a subscription. You'll see a "No subscription" message

It basically becomes a monitor you're best connecting it to an alternative source for apps like a games console, Roku, firestick or Apple TV amongst others.

If I remember correctly, a Glass TV still needs to be activated with a SkyID to allow access to the apps. You can have a SkyID without any active subscription, it's just a login so Sky can track what you watch on the TV even though you're not paying them any money.

All the apps on SkyOS are hosted on a server so any viewing data they can harvest from someone who isn't actually subscribing is useful to them.

Agreed.

2 of my TVs use computer monitors connected to Roku Streambars (for sound) and they work fine. 1 monitor is 4K and delivers a good picture in the corner of the kitchen.
