Pause rewind fast forward

I am having an issue with stv.  When watching a programme on it then go to a different one, stv again to watch something else I sometimes cannot pause, rewind or fast forward through the ads and I have to switch the tv from the mains and reset tv before it will work.  Does not happen everytime though.  I can also just get a small screen on the bottom of the right hand side and again have to reset tv.  Anyone. Have this issue?  It only happens on stv
