Re: New “Feature” Enabled by default

I believe it was removed. It likely consumed server resources. Imagine every glass or stream powering up and beginning to stream a live channel would utilise a significant amount. Furthermore, if most users simply wanted to browse the home menu for on-demand content, Sky deemed it unnecessary to implement this feature.

Hopefully it is still in development, they can have it off by default and even if it does consume more resources sky is in the business of selling TV packages & Sports, this feature would be great for older users with sky glass to simply press the power button on remote and goes straight to a Live TV channel.

I manage my elderly mum's account. Have left sky because the App screen is too difficult to navigate. Sky prioritise upselling rather than inclusivity.  The TV guide is simply too difficult for dementia sufferers to navigate to. Now have Manhattan box which returns you to most recently watched channel. She can navigate left and right from there with a simplified remote control.

Re: New “Feature” Enabled by default

If it was withdrawn, presumably they'd remove it from the devices out there that already have the option available. Only one of my Glass and one of my pucks has this option - which is odd after all this time that they haven't pushed it to all devices by now. Either way, I don't really care as I instantly disabled it when it appeared.

Re: New “Feature” Enabled by default

I still have it here on all my devices it landed some months ago. I turned it off day one very annoying but I can see the benefits for the elderly who are not so used to the demands of modern tech, don't tell my 89 year old mum though she is so tech savvy!

It is a very long release period though 🤔. If withdrawn from release I'd have thought it would be universally.

I agree - it does seem strange to just seemingly pause a roll-out. You would expect that if issues/problems/feedback had been received over the feature which has led to the roll-out halting, why they wouldn't just turn it back off for those that did previously get it.

Re: New “Feature” Enabled by default

is it just random when sky updates their software or can we expect a big update coming soon or later in the year, the just waiting around hoping this feature gets enabled is very annoying after months of waiting even sky agents on the phone never heard of it.

Updates to various parts of the platform will always be going on, and will be gradually rolled out. However, it's worth noting that even when updates are rolled out to customers, new features don't necessarily get turned on.  A lot of modern software uses things called "feature flags", which means that the company that owns the software has the capability to easily turn a feature on/off for either all, or a subset of customers without having to constantly roll out new software updates.
