Various Sky Glass Problems

Hi, I recently upgraded from Sky Q to Sky Glass and I've had regular, varied problems ever since. Some specifics include...

- Occasionally on live TV the channel will freeze for a few seconds, the loop back and replay the last few seconds, then freeze again at the same point...and stay stuck in this loop until I change channel.

- When watching something on catchup, it will freeze as though the stream is buffering, but it will never come back on no matter what I do. The only thing left to do here is turn it off at the mains and turn it back on. This has happened several times when watching The Last of Us.

- When trying to watch something on a streaming app (like STV), it can freeze and not come back on again until later that day or the next day.

- Sometimes a message will pop us saying there's problem with the signal, and it'll take me back to the home screen, but the channel will still be playing in the thumbnail, which means there is no problem with the signal.

- Pressing and holding the mic button to talk into the remote control sometimes immediately makes the top of the screen flash red and a message is displayed saying it didn't understand what was said, before I have a chance to actually say anything. When this happens it persists for a long time until later that day.

These are just some examples. There are general freezing and glitching problems almost daily.

Other TVs and devices around the house have occasional problems, but nothing like the Sky Glass Tv has.

I have Sky Broadband and using a Speedtest app in the room where Sky Glass is, my download is 66.8mbps and upload is 19.1mbps.

Any advice would be great, cheers.

The main thing to try that will probably sort most of the issues is to hardwire glass to your router and turn off WiFi

you can do this via a direct ethernet cable or a pair of homeplug adapters

I have the homeplugs adapters and have not suffered any of your issues even though I have a relatively low connection speed (compared to others )

Glass units require a consistent WiFi signal without interference and a particularly prone to suffer from minor WiFi interference

I think so - I don't have sports but I watch swat via download and can only Wayne its 4K as there is no indication on screen what format it is in

the powerline adapters are measuring mostly 30mb-32mb on the Netflix test so roughly a 10% drop on my 35mb connection (think that's par for the course)

stuff on Disney and prime certainly plays in 4K

Nice wasn't sure that would be enough for a stable 4K stream

@KaJo100 If you go down the route of Powerline adapters don't waste money on a Gigabit model as the Glass TV & Stream only have 100mbps ports.

In fairness unless it's for a computer or a laptop you could probably get away with 100mbps powerline for anything to do with TV including games consoles as they will still be stable just limited on download speed but nothing real time.

@CardiffMan1992

If your  router is not in same room as TV or if you not got any spare lan ports available on that router

You can connect a switch to router to create more spare lan ports so you can connect more devices by wired ethernet

I suggest a unmanaged gigabit switch so you can use devices that have either 10/100 lan ports or gigabit lan ports

A unmanaged switch auto detects if device has 10/100 or gigabit and is plug and play

I use 8 port gigabit switches in my home

You can get switches that have 5/8/16 ports

A switch can be in a different room to the router this is what I use

All you do is connect a Cat6 or Cat7 ethernet cable from router to switch

Just use a length of CAT 6 or 7 cable that required to reach the  switch in a different room

You might need to drill a hole on wall to run ethernet cable  from router to switch in a different room

Powerline adaptor kits is a option if you don't want to be running  ethernet cable to a different room from a router

But note some homes the performace of powerline adaptors  can vary a lot depending on the condition of house wiring and how old the wiring is

When using Powerline adaptor plugged in regards to a wall socket that's 2 gang power don't use the other power socket on the wall

Most models of Powerline Adapters have a plug socket on the front, which means you won't lose a mains socket after it's been plugged in

Dont plug Powerline adaptors into a power extentions

In regards to gaming consoles

If you have a broadband connection of over 100 Mbps

Gaming Consoles it's a better option to connect using Gigabit Ethernet

So if you planning on using a switch or powerline kits for a gaming console get  Gigabit Ethernet version

1) Games Consoles have Gigabit Ethernet  Lan ports

2) Multiplayer games you get better performance

3) Game files will download faster

Re: Various Sky Glass Problems

Thought the idea of sky glass was it could be put anywhere without trailing cable's, may just as well kept the Q box. Had this set now for six months [content removed] and all I get from sky is it's my router in the wrong place???? 2mtrs from the set with a speed test of 70mgs+ on 5gs. Steams great on all independent apps but on sky constant problems really crap.

Re: Various Sky Glass Problems

We got Sky Glass 5.weeks ago, all fine till last weekend when everything became unwatchable. Constant freezing and "technical fault" issues.

Eventually tracked down to Sky Glass not liking the TP Links and the TalkTalk router needing a firmware update.

So, two things, firmware update for router (thanks TalkTalk) and reposition TP Link well away fro. The TV and run a longer ethernet lead to the router.

Re: Various Sky Glass Problems

Sky glass is completely flawed

sky have refunded me over £400 due to issues with it

3 tvs replaced

6 remote controls (they said it was not the tv for 2 months) kept saying it was the remote causing the tv not to work - relaxed the tv and all remotes started working **bleep**

worst product I have ever had the please of watching tv on

Sky black screen and technical problems

Had my sky glass for 2 years with no problem, then in the last 2 weeks all hell broke loose.

Kept switching off, screen would go black, technical issues would appear on the screen.

I would have to turn off the tv and router and reset at least 2 or 3 times a day, absolute pain.

I am reverting back to sky q as soon as I can, as for the sky help line, they did not help 1 bit.
