Upgrade to SKY glass gen 2

I got sky glass in June. I instantly had to have it replaced due to faulty subwoofer. The replacemecame and the frame was poorly put together with light leaks etc and I'm sure the top speakers are quieter. The replacement also developed the same problem with the sub. I am now majorly angry as sky just released gen 2 without any prior announcement. I am stuck in a 4 year contract with a [removed] TV that's faulty and the one reason I never called up to complain is because I KNOW I would of got a refurb and HAVE to pay to send it back.

Apart from my TV possibly being a refurb and the sub not working the way it should I was happy as it's a contract tv but now gen 2 is released I want my contract cancelled and I want the gen 2. I do not want to be stuck with this gen 1 for 4 years knowing I could of waited a few months for the 2nd gen.

please can I cancel my contract and have gen 2 on contract instead

You purchased a Gen 1, you're not entitled to an upgrade to Gen 2. You'll have to sell your Gen 1 TV and purchase a new Glass Gen 2. If you're paying your Gen 1 on loan then you'll continue to have to make payments on that.

I imagine that's not what you're wanting to hear, but I think it describes the reality of the thing. Maybe someone else will follow up with better news for you.

As mentioned by the previous poster, there is no 'upgrade' option from gen1 to gen2. Just like there's no upgrade option from last year's LG/Samsung/Sony/Philips/Panasonic TV to this year's model. You signed a loan agreement for a specific model of TV - Sky Glass gen1 - so that's what you have to continue to pay for.

If your replacement TV is poor in terms of speaker quality and light bleed then you must complain and get it replaced again. You are paying hundreds of pounds for this TV and it shouldn't matter if it's a refurb or not - just keep getting it replaced until you get one that is of sufficient quality - that is what Sky should provide.

I gave up on Glass as I wasn't happy with the quality. I had a gen1 and bought a gen2 on the first week of release but returned it after a few days. Yes it was slightly better than the gen1 but just not worth it at all. I've also got rid of the gen1 as we just weren't using it. I've since bought an OLED TV which came with a free 6 year warranty and is absolutely mind-blowing compared to the quality of Glass gen2, both in terms of build quality, responsiveness and picture quality.

Re: Upgrade to SKY glass gen 2

Update, spoken to sky. Researched consumer rights. Under section 75 should be entitled. It's been longer than 6 months however I have proof from previous forum posts that within those 6 months I had the screen blob issue in content which makes any content near unwatchable. I am hopeful that I can cancel the 4 year contract, send back the faulty paperweight and then hopefully get into a new contract for the 2nd gen. The advisor on the phone has also seen photo evidence of the screen issue I've had. He says it's quite unique. I've only seen one other forum post from a user with the same problem. I'm going to be using every extent of my consumer rights to get out of this 4 year contract.

Reposting these images in this thread nearly all date back to within 6 months of purchase, but has been a consistent issue with no fix. It's worse when HDR is enabled through any sky cinema, Netflix, prime, Disney plus but also prevalent in non HdR content although not as bad. It's a local dimming issue and I'm pushing fully to get the new one as I'm not being stuck in a 4 year contract for this. Especially when the 2nd one was released with no prior knowledge that has also fixed MANY of the issues of the first one. This is being posted for evidence and reference for any manager at sky and in case I have to involve legal/citizens advice or whoever is able to get this issued solved.

Hi @Danb5

You are posting on a public forum. No one here can cancel your contract. You will need to discuss this with Sky as you have already stated you are doing.

As per your consumer rights, I would recommend you seek independent advice rather than rely on a public forum. However from what I understand you have to give sky an oppertunity to repair or replace the product once it is past 30 days. See: Consumer Rights Act 2015 - Which?

If you believe that sky have't acted inline with your rights, I would recommend rasinig a complaint with them as outlined here: How to make a Sky complaint | Sky Help | Sky.com | Sky Help | Sky.com

@mikealanr

i know it's a public forum hence why not replying since after speaking to sky so that I have evidence of posts regarding issue. I had to use a sky my photo upload yesterday and waiting to hear from manager which I can redirect to forum posts to prove I've had this issue from the start
