Times they are a changing

We have been a Sky household for over 20 years and currently have Stream. We have enjoyed Sky and liked the concept of stream but unfortunately it has been badly let down by the quality of the hardware (remote in particular) and the numerous issues - some of which are still ongoing:

- Puck lockups needing a reboot
- Fast Forward and Rewind just do not work as they should
- Issues with adverts
- live programmes dropping out to other channels / content
- playlist / continue watching issues.
- etc

My wife had become used to the Sky Q / Stream interface - however the constant issues have become just too much. We know there are fixes and workarounds but enough is enough.

We also have an Apple TV 4k device. Yes we know it is significantly more expensive than a Puck. But it just works (1 lockup in 6 months). The user interface is so simple. It is quick. Sky Go even works better on it. It has the TV guide app which has all the channels including Now (Ent / Cinema / Sport). Continue watching just works, FF and RW just work.

So last night unbelievably my wife said lets get rid of Sky and just use Apple TV. So that is what will be happening. I should also say that we are not an Apple household.

Re: Times they are a changing

Yeah Apple TV seems best in class overall, but some of the apps are of poor quality.

iPlayer doesn't support subtitles at all, and I believe it doesn't support 4K/HDR content either. It also doesn't support proper profiles.

Netflix is quite an outdated version of the app, and is missing out on a lot of features. The biggest is interactive content.

If Apple can convince some app developers to sort it out, Sky are in for a rude awakening.

On the NOW side, it's worth noting that the quality is inferior to Sky Stream and also misses out some features you may or may not use like red button services and watch from the start.

For me, Apple TV currently has different problems which stops it being a better alternative to Sky Stream. I suspect this will change if Sky don't improve things.

Hope it works out for you!
