This is the second puc I have had, that turns itself off when paused for 15 mins or so.
sky seem to be unaware as they say that it shouldn't! But If you miss the " pick up the remote to prevent it going into standby mode" it turns the puc off!!!
this is really annoying and it looks like I'll be going back to sky Q

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreSounds like a built in power saving "the device will go to sleep" if you aren't actively watching it.
nothing new in a feature like that but 15 mins seems quite short. The same thing does happen to me with the device going into standby by mode when it's not playing anything and no buttons have been pressed.
strange Sky seem unaware as it sounds like an energy saving/"eco" feature rather than a bug.

Sounds like a safeguard to prevent overfill of Sky Servers.... there should be a warning that there is a 15 min max on pause?
Why do you want to pause for so long?

That would also help to prevent overfill of Sky's servers by Pucks left on pause and forgotten about, i.e. not in active use?

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreNot really, I don't see how it's got anything to do with the Sky servers.
A lot of the streaming content isn't from the Sky services it's from individual streaming apps, when a show is paused it's not actively utilising any bandwidth to continue streaming it and this happens if you leave the pick on the Home Screen and just don't press any buttons on the remote for like 10-15 minutes.

It seems strange that whenever you speak to sky they cannot give an answer as to why it happens although to me it's obviously built into their software as it warns you it's about to do it!!
Surely sky can build in an option to disable this infuriating function!!!

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreI suspect their general help desk wouldn't have a clue about all the features as they only know what's on the script in front of them.
did they ever transfer you over to a specific glass/stream team or have you always ended up with their offshore call centre. I notice a big differing service and knowledge depending who you get through to.
it would be nice to either be able to disable that setting or customise the time length "eg one hour rather than 15 minutes"

I have spoken to the initial team but there is never anyone else more qualified available!!!
promised a call back from the stream/ glass team but surprisingly enough they never call back!!!
so frustrating, it's getting to be a deal breaker for me and I'm looking a sky Q again to save my sanity!!!

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreHalf the time I don't believe the callback requests ever get submitted to the technical/expert teams as the number of people who have said they were told they would get a callback and didn't on this forum is staggering.

@MarkGoldsmith Where does the pause buffer get created other than on a Sky server🤔

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreIt happened to me just now when I was taking a phone call. When I go out I usually leave the Glass on for background noise for the dogs but often when I get back it has shut down. I find this highly annoying as well but unfortunately it is EU legislation. The pause aspect might also be included but I really can't be asked to read it all to find out 😫

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreIts possible they never thought specifically about the pause functionality as well, and its part of the software that says, if there is on activity on the device at all for X minutes put it in standby.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@MarkGoldsmith You may well be right but whatever the cause it can be annoying. When I pause for more than a couple of minutes I take a mental note of how far along the programme is and if it switches off before I get back to it I can simply select it again and watch from start and FF to where I had paused it.
Yes FF is another conversation 🤣
