Depends who you ask. Some will say yes, others will say no.

Ask yourself why you want it and if you actually need it.

Glass Gen 2 is an all-in-one TV/soundbar with SkyOS built-in which can be paid off, interest free, over 4 years. If either of those are attractive features then it's well worth considering.

Can you get better, more versatile smart TVs with more features, better screen technology for the same money or less? Yes. You can add a Sky Stream puck to any TV and get the same fully streamed Sky TV experience.

Wouldn't recommend it. Imagine a big cheap tablet that requires restarting everyday because it's rubbish. Just like tonight where there is no channel list and most channels won't load. Sick with Sky + and get a decent Korean TV curry's.

Re: Sky glass yes or no

Choose wisely. Also remember that Sky TV package subscriptions are now 24 month commitments - with up to 2 annual price hikes within that term too. Glass is an expensive mid-range tv at best. Sky's TV offering is also declining in quality and content also.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend it either. And i've got 3 of the bloomin things.

~-~-~-~-~-~
Sky Glass 65” [Gen 2] with Sky Live
Sky Glass 43” [Gen 1] with Sky Live
Sky Glass Air 43” connected to Sky Soundbox
Sky Stream Puck x4
Sky Sports & Sky Movies + UHD & Dolby Atmos

Sky FTTP
Sky Mobile SIMO x6

On the other hand, I have had my Gen 2 for months and I have never had to restart it. I would thoroughly recommend it.

Re: Sky glass yes or no

Had our 43" gen 1 in the bedroom since Jan 2023. Found it to be rock solid, although we've made sure it has a strong WiFi signal to our WiFi 6 router. Happily played 4K & Atmos content through it without issue.  Can't stress enough that a good WiFi connection is required as well as a fast broadband connection, as free from congestion as possible and ideally with WiFi 6.

Sky Glass & Stream Puck customer w/Sky Entertainments & Netflix, Sky Cinema, Whole Home & UHD/Dolby Atmos add-on.

Re: Sky glass yes or no

@Biggybigman2969 so there you have it.... some say "yes", some say "no", some say "maybe" 😀

For myself Sky Glass would NOT be suitable as the main TV in my living room, however,  as a secondary TV it might be suitable.

So here are some things I considered for my main TV which might be relevant to you

  • The main TV in my living room is in a corner, and so it was important to have a TV with excellent off-angle viewing- an OLED TV meets that need.
  • Price... paid less for my OLED and soundbar than same size  Glass
  • Did not need or want 0% finance from Sky

Sky Stream
1000/115 FTTP (Aquiss) to Zyxel DX3301
3 x Asus XT9s + 2 x RT-AC58U V3 for WiFi (AP mode)
65" Samsung S92C OLED TV
C430 Samsung soundbar with subwoofer
6 other streaming TVs
43+ network connected devices

@Biggybigman2969 As you have probably realised Glass/stream is a Marmite thing.  Personally I love it and would not contemplate returning to Sky Q.

The streaming platform has its issues from time to time but then so did Sky Q and still does.  The most important consideration IMHO is having a strong, stable and fast WiFI signal alternatively being able to connect your TV via an Ethernet cable (or powerline adapters - Amazon for about £40).

Re: Sky glass yes or no

Don't forget that Sky helpfully offer their NOW streaming service too, for those that don't want to use Sky hardware, but still want to watch Sky programmes.

You can stream all Sky channels live and on demand in up to the same UHD/HDR quality using the NOW app on various streaming devices and smart TVs.

It's an excellent alternative if you don't need the full Sky TV service and don't want to be locked into a long term contract or have to worry about returning loaned hardware.

@BenJoBanjo  Yes but you are still paying for a service per month

Indeed. But if you only want to watch a couple of things on Sky then it's great. Pay for a month, binge what you want to watch, cancel and then wait until there's some other stuff you want to watch. No hardware to return, no complicated activation procedures to go through - it's very simple and works great for many people.

I personally think Sky have done a very clever thing by offering their content by such a variety of means.

Glass and Stream are there for those that want to be enveloped by the Sky ecosystem and have everything served up together in one handy package. NOW is there for those that just want the odd bit of Sky content every now and again.

@BenJoBanjo  I hear loads of people are leaving sky think it's down to the cost not entirely sure I've always said I'd only leave sky if something happened to the company
