Sky Glass Image quality.

The new upcoming (now rolled back) update, of which I have not seen anything about FURTHER improvements on picture quality which is absolutely terrible.

I have done some alterations and created custom settings, but it still looks awful. I believe the range of settings we can adjust are just not good enough to create the images we should be seeing on this screen.

The question is are we going to get more improvements to the range of customisation or is sky going to vastly improve the picture profiles?

What images should you be seeing on this screen? It's a fairly budget backlit LCD panel with some local dimming. It can be made to look OK with some decent UHD content, but you might need to lower your expectations of what you think it might be capable of.

Re: Sky Glass Image quality.

Make sure that auto dimming is off and local dimming is on. You may have already done that.

Some have requested a Gamer mode but not sure it will happen.

The quality is what it is really, remember it may be a 4K UHD TV but it remains a QLED and not an OLED.

As you've suggested you've already done it is best to set to custom mode and play around until you find something satisfactory in your settings.

Yes your right it does look ok on some content, but what it requires is a bit more range within the contrast and the other areas where we can change the image. I also believe that the sky profiles could be better or at least have some more added to it to give us more options. This TV is perfectly capable of musch more even within its price range, to improve the picture quality.

All you can do is contact Sky and ask.

I'm actually not sure it's capable of much more within its price range. It's already wildly over-priced (and rising) and uses a very mid-range panel with limited brightness. It's a mass-market product marketed as being simple to use and having everything in the one place. Sky probably don't really want to complicate it with any more tweakable settings which will only confuse many users.

Remember that Glass is a screen, soundbar and streaming service all-in-one - that's what you're paying for. If image quality is what you care about then you can buy a vastly superior 55" OLED TV for less than a Glass unit.

@SlenderRobert

Thats not what I said, I was on about more range within the simple parameters of the adjustment dials already built in, adding more set profiles wouldn't do any harm to you either. Like you, I have seen a lot of screens in my years and worked with many myself too, so yes I am ok with the overall function of this model but as I said it really could do much more (even straight out the box) its not as cheaply built as you think.

Re: Sky Glass Image quality.

@Pej1

I was in TV manufacturing for nearly 30 years. You cannot deny that the build quality of the TV is outstanding. However, the panel is what it is and unless there is some processors that are awaiting some future software to activate it is quite unlikely to improve the picture much further.

With all the criticism of the picture quality in the early days and the hyped aurora display upgrade before Christmas bringing improvements I'd have thought Sky wouldn't have held back at that stage.

Personally I think unlikely there will be much more in picture improvements there is certainly nothing being reported, but you never know.

Re: Sky Glass Image quality.

@Anonymous

Since QS13 software update

Auto Backlight Adjustment the default setting was automatically changed to off

No need anymore for Glass TV customers  to manually switch off as the default is now off

You keep mentioning Backlight Adjustment as auto dimming

That confuses some people

Local Dimming is a totally different thing to Auto Backlight Adjustment setting in regards to Sky Glass

Re: Sky Glass Image quality.

But some may inadvertently turn it on when playing with settings. Assuming oh that must be on not off.

I shall correct my terminology 😉

Re: Sky Glass Image quality.

This tv is over priced, it should have a good picture quality.What's the point of upgrading if you can't get what  you want.I am happy with the glass screen but picture quality is disappointing

@Muchineripi The picture quality is nowhere near the standard of an OLED TV and unfortunately never will be.  If you are disappointed with the current picture quality you should have seen how bad it was before the picture quality update about 6 months ago.  It is sooooo much better now.

I must admit I do find it funny that Sky have the only mass market TV that is more expensive nearly 2 years later then it was when it launched.

@CardiffMan1992 Fully agree.  Last years LG / Panasonic / Sony etc will be cheaper this year and substantially cheaper than they were in 2021.
