Sky Glass Gen1 - End of life
Hi Everyone,
I have had a Gen 1 Sky Glass on a payment plan that ends in October, I have no aerial and had Sky Stream been an option when I was looking at options I would have gone with that.
Does anyone know what the options are for an unwanted Sky Glass??
I am looking to change as other TV's provide a better picture and are more suited to consoles, plus Sky Stream is now a thing making Glass a redundant option for me now.

Your options are really to either give the TV away or try to sell it online.

Sky Stream has been a thing for just as long as Sky Glass (in the UK) : both were launched in October 2021. Stream became a standalone product exactly one year later: before then it was only available alongside a Glass television set.
You've actually owned the Glass set from the moment your order was accepted: the monthly payment reduces the balance of the loan used to purchase it.

Re: Sky Glass Gen1 - End of life
Hi @Cm81 in addition to the other responses to your question, be aware that the resale value of a Glass TV is pretty poor. I sold one about 18 months ago and had to drop the price considerably before I sold it. If I remember correctly I think I only got £250. Also, don't forget to factory reset it before passing it on.

Re: Sky Glass Gen1 - End of life
Thanks,
I did think they would not go for much, I think you lose the use of most speakers using as a screen without the Sky Subscription.
Only bought as at the time it was the only option available, as someone mentioned, the standalone Stream came out about a year after Glass and the Puck only worked as a 2nd screen not a main.

Not strictly true. You don't lose most of the speakers - they still function, regardless of having a Sky subscription. If you connect a device via HDMI which outputs Dolby Atmos, you will get Dolby Atmos from the speakers on a Glass TV.
If you keep an active Sky ID without an actual Sky TV subscription, you can still use the apps on the Glass TV. Disney+, Apple TV+, Netflix etc can all still output Dolby Atmos if you pay for the appropriate subscription to receive that audio format. The speaker don't stop functioning.
The resale value of gen 1 Glass TV's is falling all the time so if you want to sell it, do it sooner rather than later, but don't expect much.

Re: Sky Glass Gen1 - End of life
@Cm81 When I sold my Gen One I only asked for enough to pay off the remaining credit agreement - approx £140. A very grateful couple bought it after Sky quoted them £400 for a refurbished set to replace their broken set. I only had it listed for a couple of days, so there are people willing to buy and collect if you're asking a reasonable price.
