Re: Sky/Comcast Single UI Incoming.

Also wonder if this will extend to Q given it will cover Xfinity X1 which is Comcasts DVR product.

At no point does it say which of the current interface it will keep. If any.

So what does it mean for us on sky puck. 🤔

@Ben1980

Q pre-dates the Comcast acquisition, though, so wasn't designed with Entertainment OS compatibility in mind: that would presumably make such a project much more challenging.  It's also a very mature product (launched in early 2016) with around seven million subscription households so drastic UI change is distinctly problematic.

Re: Sky/Comcast Single UI Incoming.

Q will continue to die a slow but dignified death, together with its shiny blue UI.

Sky/Comcast will unify the streaming services across all their territories with a single UI, perhaps with the addition of a proper cloud DVR service.

Hopefully they'll spend a lot of time on it and make sure it works before launch.

Have you got any shiny screenshots of Comcast's xfinity UI?

Re: Sky/Comcast Single UI Incoming.

Hmmmmm does this explain why Glass/Stream software is held together with rubber bands. Have Comcast instructed to get it working to a reasonable standard as the investment is going into Xfinity as the interface as we know it will be ditched.

Re: Sky/Comcast Single UI Incoming.

In fairness it looks quite smart, fresh and updated. Probably months away or even next year.

Looks great lovely stuff. but let's hope they get basic functions working first before they start throwing this in the mix lol . Like for instance today, I'm trying to watch Jurassic Park the new one and it's only in HD why?

Re: Sky/Comcast Single UI Incoming.

The XFinity UI has looked like that for a very long time, years in fact.

I'd expect an entirely new UI will be being developed which may look completely different...

If that's 'the Comcast look', wouldn't one reasonably expect Sky devices to migrate towards it, rather than something 'completely different'?

Rails and Thumbnails are now so ubiquitious it's difficult to imagine what that might be anyway.

@TimmyBGood

The link you posted above is for X1, which offers the old 'traditional' UI.

Any future single UI will be based on a mixture of Sky Stream and Flex. They have similarities already.

X1, and its UI, is very much focussed on linear viewing in the traditional sense and is the equivalent to Sky Q.

Indeed. Rails and thumbnails are much of a muchness on any streaming device/service. Basically they just need it to work better. It doesn't have to be pretty, it'll be covered in ads for content anyway.

Who knows, maybe they'll attempt to be the first with gesture driven navigation? That Glass 'smart' camera has got to be used for something more interesting than video calls surely?!?

We'll be swiping along rails (Minority Report style) from the comfort of our couches before we know it...
