August price increase of 18%!

I have just received an email saying my price will go up from August on my sky stream tv package. I only joined in March and now the price is going up from £45 to £53, which is 18%. This is an absolutely huge and unacceptable hike and I would have never switched from my previous provider. Is 18% even legal and has anyone else been impacted like this please?

If you signed up in March you would have been protected from that year's April price increase for a couple of months.

Its worth noting that the price increases are done on the list price and not the discounted price you pay, so essentially the better the discount you have the higher the percentage increase appears.

Yes I just got notice yesterday after agreeing a new contract in late March 2025  They are a disgrace,a contract is supposed to be binding for the 2 parties not a ploy,a deception a downright lie.I agreed a 2 year contract not this nonsense, they would be up in arms threatening this, that and the other if they were on the receiving end of this criminality.Any *contract* with them is worthless and by their definition totally ludicrous, meaningless and totally legally unenforceable.

You clearly haven't read or understood your contractual terms and conditions. You appear to have assumed it's a fixed price contract. It's not. The price can increase once a year within limits explained in the contract.

Re: August price increase of 18%!

@Aikido+warrior If you signed a new contract in March the April price rise would likely have been deferred for a couple of months. I'm sure if you read the contract they sent you it will have all the details, including that about annual price increases.

Re: August price increase of 18%!

That's incorrect you sound like a sky stooge,it is a fixed term contract with a * get out of jail card free clause* which really invalidates the whole pretext of having a contract at all. It's not necessary to quote their nonsense verbatim so I won't,I have had numerous conversations with these people over the years and I have challenged them and they don't disagree with my assertion but point to the get out of jail card free clause. You imagine contracting a builder and they insert a clause saying "it's not really the price I'll put it up as I please as soon as you sign it." .

@Aikido+warrior please can you point out where it states that it's a fixed price contract?

Can you please point it out to me where it states "These terms and conditions are completely bogus,a work of fiction,a fairy story, meaningless waffle,we'll fleece you in any way we like ?".

I assure you I'm not a Sky stooge. I've had critical posts deleted from on here in the past week and I also have a claim with CISAS against Sky ongoing at the moment.

The contracts are not something I have an issue with. They've been this way for the 29 years I've been a customer. They've never had a fixed price for the entire duration of the contract but if you feel they aren't legal you are able to challenge them in court, but I don't think you'd win.

It doesn't and they're not. Why on earth would you agree to them, if that's what you think?

You've simply been caught out because you made a false assumption.

Re: August price increase of 18%!

I haven't been caught out at all,I have had like I say numerous exchanges with their customer non service agents since the takeover by Comcast,if you care to look up the history of Comcast you will note they are the WORST performing company in America winning more golden, silver and bronze awards for poor customer service in the whole of the U.S.A.

Googles "CISAS". 👀

@Aikido+warrior I feel your pain, but as has already been pointed out, Sky, just like every single TV service provider in the UK, includes an annual price increase in their contract and do not allow you to cancel because of it.

You are only talking to other customers here who face similar increases during their contracts. Caveat emptor.

Re: August price increase of 18%!

One thing price increases do give you the right to do, however, is renegotiate your contracts. Ring them up, say the increase is too much and you'd like to cancel, they'll find an offer.
