notification of emails, have to refresh page to receive them

Hi I have just changed phone and having problems with my sky email. I access my emails through the email app. when I receive an email I don't get any notification or sound unless I go to the email app and swipe down. I have checked all my notification settings and they seem to be ok. I asked someone to send me a test to my sky email and my Gmail- the Gmail came thru immediately, with a notification but nothing to the sky email. After 10mins I went to email app, swiped and then it showed. any ideas why this is happening?

What app are you using for your Sky emails? Is it also via the Gmail app?
