It takes 21 days for security reasons.

It's a pity you didn't make a separate note of your Recovery Code as Sky recommended when you set up 2 step verification. If you had, you could have turned it off yourself within seconds.

@Colin133

When you set it up did you make a not of the recovery code as it is this that you can sign in with to disable ot, if you didn't then it will take 21 days for it to be turned off.

Re: Sky

It was years ago I got a new phone two weeks ago

and haven't been able to get my email since as they won't change my new number to get the code and why in the this era of technology does it take 21 days

It wouldn't have been years ago. 2 step login was introduced for Sky Yahoo Mail only recently. As for why it takes 21 days - security, as already posted.

Re: Sky

They did it when they changed from sky to yahoo for the emails I was living in Spain at that point and I was about 3or 4 years ago

Sky's 2FA hasn't been available for all that long, so it coudn't have been years ago.

It is possible to turn if off without the recovery code, but it would have to be done whilst you still have access to the old number

.

It is ridiculous that Sky don't give us a method to update the registered phone number, and don't have a method of doing it for us. (after passing security checks obviously)

The change to Yahoo (from Gmail) was in 2013.

Sky's 2FA has been available for less than 2 years

My guess is that Sky implemented it because they had to and did so as cheaply as possible given that email is a service they'd arguably like to dispense with completely

.

It's a pity they don't stress the importance of keeping a separate record of the Recovery Code for situations like this.
