Original email address not allowing access

I had an @sky.com email address, but have now rejoned sky and they advised they could not accept an @sky.com email address and I had to provide them with my gmail email address.  I cannot now access my @sky.com account.  Can anyone help as that is my main address?

You would need to set up an alternativ email address to use, which is why Gmail was suggested, as Sky don't accept Sky.com addresses as a backup address I'm afraid.

Re: Original email address not allowing access

Do you know how I can access my @sky.com email now as it is not recognising my user name or password.

There is absolutely no reason why rejoining Sky should stop your email address working.

What happens when you try? Can you log in here with that address?

Does it give any clue as to if it's the username (email address) or password that is not recognised?

Try seeing if you can change the password. https://skyid.sky.com/resetpassword/email

Re: Original email address not allowing access

That asks me for my sky ID which is linked to the gmail address. If I try to reset the password on the @sky.com email it says it has sent the password reset to the @sky.com email, which I cannot access.

The only thing I can think is possible, is as you now probably have two Sky "identities" it may be getting confused by conflicting cookies, so try loging in to your email account in a different browser.

If you still get nowhere I think you will need to call Sky, but be aware they are not very good with email problems.

Re: Original email address not allowing access

They did up to the 28 June 2022. On that day the email situation got bad to worse, and only way of sending and receiving emails is via the Sky site, when you sign into  one's account.

Changing Account settings in one's computer doesn't work, and best not to do.. I've spent 2 days on it, and how I know.

There are 2 ways of dealing with emails:

1....write them online after you've signed into  Sky's Your Account.

2...write them offline in Notepad, then right click mouse to copy what you wrote, go onl;ine to Sky, sign in to your account and paste the message into a message page, then press send.

Only way emails work at present, and better than nothing 🙂

Nothing has changed recently, It is still possible to access emails just as you always did. You can use the webmail exactly as always.

For clients/apps Sky|Yahoo have been tightening up authentication, but have been phasing it in (for a VERY long time) so not everybody is affected at the same time.

See here for details: Problems accessing your Sky.com email from your email app | Sky Help | Sky.com

Basically what it means is, if your current app/client isn't OAuth compatible you will need to use a generated password instead of your account password in the app/client.

So nothing changed on 28 June 2022, except that might have been the day your account was upgraded.

Re: Original email address not allowing access

Yes, but that's the only way, via the website.   Not keen on Yahoo as I used to be signed in with them many years ago, and they lost all 3 of my addies and passwords, and when I made the 4th one, it worked for one sitting as it were, then they lost that too, so gave up with them.

Re the generated password, well I didn't have to do that, and could type the 16 digits, which got me in, and email had no probs of any sort for months, until late June of this year. My comp gives me messages which is very useful, and it told me Mail wasn't installed! I use Mail you see as it's less of a hassle, or was. But it had to be installed to be able to use it, and been using it for years!  Windows Mail is very basic, and worst I've ever used, but it's there. to use.

The message I get now is Sky Accounts are out of date! and I ignore that as I know they are!

But a forumer here said something interesting and will give that a try, as I deleted the account data, and he/she said what it was, so will do some experimenting tomorrow, but thanks for replying. 🙂  Have to sleep now, -waves-

Re: Original email address not allowing access

Sorry, forgotten your name, and will write it down, as it doesn't show up in the quote box.

An upgrade you say, don't think so, and nothing to say there was one happening. I was getting emails down at the time and one came down and that was it.  Zilch after that!  My husband has his own comps, like I have, and we don't share them at all.  His email was working as he used another system, and that went down yesterday!

I think what's happened is that we share the same server, but have separate  comps and each of us have our own email addies and passwords, and that could have flumoxed Sky and Yahoo, yet they should have known that we are 2 people and not one!  We've had Sky for years and we told them of our situation at the time, that we only have one phone line, and share the Net connection!  Sharing comps isn't something I agree with at all.  We also had a server who Sky bought and Sky gave us data to use, so that we could connect to them(Sky)   Yahoo might not know re that fact.

Must go, and if I my idea works will let you know, ok. 🙂

I think that's unlikely. It may have confused your computer, but as you have different email addresses, it won't have confused Sky/Yahoo.

As @jayach posted, there have been no recent changes to Sky Yahoo Mail. It's likely, however, that compliance with OAuth may have been forced upon your email address. Neither Sky nor Yahoo advises you when that will happen or has happened, beyond what they said at the beginning of this long rollout.

No, you can use any client/app you like, you do not need to use the webmail.

The "problem" is that if the app/client is not OAuth compatible it will need to use a generated password.

The out of date message is misleading, it really means your app/client is trying to use a standard username and passsword for authentication and that method is now "out of date".

If you say what app/client you wish to use (Edit: and the device you want to use it on) we can give you the correct method for using it.
