How do I remove 2 factor authentication?

I accidentally activated 2 factor authentication for my sky yahoo email. Sky won't tell me how to remove it permanently. I don't need or want it, it's a total nuisance.

AI says that as sky manage the online portal, they have to remove it. It's a sky yahoo account, not a 'yahoo email' on its own, so the settings etc for yahoo mail aren't exactly the same.

There aren't any pull down menus or tabs in the cog icon, or under 'security' that tell me what to do.

Can anyone advise how to get rid of this ridiculous 2 factor carry on?

Thanks

You didn't do this yourself @blah33 as it has been rolled out to everyone and I'm afraid there is no way around it.

This has happened to my account but Im also getting a  email each time I log in saying a request has been made to change details on my account through the 2 step verification as soon as I log in?

@Nannie5 that appears to be normal, if somewhat excessive.

Does this mean there is now no way round 2 step verification and that I need to have my mobile with me every time I sign in? My wife also uses the same account so this will be extremely awkward when we are not in the same place when she logs in.

@PostieMick

After you get access to your email account there should be a box to remember you for 30 days so if you select that and don't log out you should remain logged in for the month as this is how it should work.

@PostieMick I'm afraid I can only assume that if Sky had wanted there to be a way around it, they would have left it optional, as it was.

Shame you cannot attach two telephone numbers so you both get the code.

If this would be possible help appreciated.  Have tried the stay 30 days but next time still wants code.  Also the suggestion 'no access to code'.  Use the back up code and should remove but still appears next time you log in.

Shared email impossible and cannot have a second sky email account?

I haven't tried it myself but if you login with the recovery code this should then turn 2FA off meaning you should not be asked for the code next time so are you saying this does not work and you are asked for the code again the next time you try to login ?

I did exactly that yesterday and it worked fine. After using the recovery code, you're given the option to 'set it up later' again, just as you were before 2 step verification was (termporarily) made mandatory.

Re: How do I remove 2 factor authentication?

Well, it worked, much to my amazement. The proverbial call centre employee on my second attempt over 2 days, and with several different assistants, has actually removed the wretched 2 factor rubbish from my account. Now I can just put in my email, password and click. No silly prompts to get a one time user code, text message or any such garbage. Just get into my account again.

The first time I tried to get rid of 2 factor, or 2 farcer more like, I was told that it was yahoo's responsibility, but yahoo told me by email, that as it was a sky portal, they had to deal with removing it. In short, sky had given me the wrong info, probably to 'get rid of the insoluble problem' that they didn't want to admit was annoying people, ie the compulsory 2 farce-r.

The second call, I made it a complaint, that I had 2 factor, and didn't want it. I got through to a person that way much faster (I hate the AI assistant voice that is inevitably useless, just says 'try the advice pages', which never have your specific problem.

Anyway, I now ahve the 2 farce removed, and all the boxes, 'remember me for 30 days', etc. Let's see how long it remains clear and back to its old self, but today, it was as it was and as it should be.
