Email deactivation

Hi can anyone help or advise me regarding my email account. Got an email saying unless I sign into the account the account will be be disabled. Am I right in thinking that if I sign into via the account via my Sky account this will prevent the account being disabled?

Yes, signing in via sky.com will stop the deactivation: https://www.sky.com/signin/email

Sky's help here explains: https://www.sky.com/help/sky-yahoo-mail/inactive-sky-yahoo-acc/articles/inactive-yahoo-mail-accounts

Re: Email deactivation

Mark39 - you were very helpful some 12 - 15 months back when I received exactly the same sort of email saying my Sky email account would be deleted unless I signed into it but it was then, as it is now, my primary email account for day-to-day use and I log into it at least several times every day!  If I remember correctly the problem had arisen because I was using a shortcut to access the account which did not 'register' on Sky's systems. Since then I have used only the logon link that was given to me then and I use only two PCs, both Windows 11.  I do not use mobile devices of any sort, phone or tablet, to access my Sky email account.  Honestly, I don't trust them to get it right, especially after the previous episode.

You might be able to imagine my surprise this morning to get another "use it or lose it" type email from Sky, this time with a date of 5th November before it all gets deleted.

Do you have any idea what's going on?  As I say, no matter the browser, I use only the direct link to my Sky email account that I've been using since the last nonsense!

Thanks in advance.

Re: Email deactivation

Thank you for your answer to my question. I have logged in via Sky.com and added the bookmark to my home screen on my mobile phone so I can regularly sign in to prevent account deactivation.

In honesty, no @Bob+P. We've not been given the heads-up on any new exercise, so I can only assume it's a continuation of the process that started about a year ago. I think you would have to rely on Sky's assurance at the time that providing you're logging in via sky.com your email account would be safe, despite the new warning you've recently been sent. Unsatisfactory, I know. You could give Sky a call, but I doubt they would tell you anything different (assuming you got through to an adviser who had any clue at all...).

@Noddi78

If you use that direct link that @Mark39 posted then hopefully that should prevent this from happening again as it is the one I use and have not had any issues like you have.

Re: Email deactivation

I used the link, hopefully Skys instruction to log in saves the hassle of the account being deleted.

Re: Email deactivation

Thanks Mark39.

I've used that exact link ever since the problems of around a year ago and I've only used the Chrome browser on two Windows11 PCs to access my emails.  Nothing else anywhere.

As I mentioned I don't use it on mobile devices at all - I'm too clumsy to risk that! - so my interactions with the Sky email account are as direct as they can be.  Not only that of course, by using that link I avoided losing any sort of access back then which sort of speaks volumes.

I don't think I'm brave enough to try to talk to Sky!!  But I think I'll have to take precautions and use Thunderbird or something like it, to backup the emails, just in case Sky are serious.

Thanks again and if you hear anything else, I'd really appreciate the heads up!

Re: Email deactivation

Thanks for the reply. The conundrum I have is that I do use that link and have done since the last time Sky threatened to close a very active account!

Yes, very sensible. Using POP so that you have a local copy is what I do, albeit via Outlook rather than Thunderbird.

Re: Email deactivation

I've just noticed a very small difference in the wording of the link provided this time as opposed to the one back in January and which I've used since.

From January 25 (to now): https://skyid.sky.com/signin/email

As of now: https://www.sky.com/signin/email

Trying them both they certainly lead to the same webpage but I'm just wondering if Sky's 'protocols' for using their email facilities has changed slightly and is affecting the way they view - or don't - customers' logging in.

Just a thought.
