Code 505

I've received an email saying that my email will be closed down in 72 hours because of a persistent error code 505 sent from my email.  Is this legitimate or scam email?

Almost certainly a scam. Definitely,  if it's not addressed to you by name.

That will be a scam email as it will not address you by your actual name and will probably say something like "Dear User" and there is probably a link in it that want you to click through so mark these emails as spam so they get deleted.
