16 Digit Mail App Password Not Available

Hello,

It appears Sky are happy to annoy and totally frustrate Yahoo Mail customers by no longer providing 16 digit mail app passwords.

I have tried everything to add my email account to Apple Mail but I need a 16 digit mail app password.

Does anyone have a solution as at this point I feel so strong about this that I will cancel my whole Sky subscription if Sky don't get their act together and treat their customers with respect and provide 16 digit mail app password again.

@FrustratedUser6 I thought Apple Mail was OAuth2 compliant, and therefore not needing an app password.

Make sure your OS is up to date, and look for an OAuth2 authentication option in the Mail app.

Edited to add : if all else fails you can log in here, which it appears is pretty much where Sky see their responsibility ends, so far as Sky Yahoo Mail is concerned: www.sky.com/signin/email

Yahoo Mail customers are perfectly happy, they have their own app generator, should they need it.

Apple mail (on both mobile an desktop) should work fine without a generated password. What version of Apple Mail are you trying to use?

I doubt Sky will give a monkey's if you leave, people come and go all the time, it's called churn.

And, there is zero chance they will bring back the generator.

If your version of Apple Mail is so old, and can't be updated, you will just need to use an alternative app.

I find it quite interesting that so many say they are going to leave over an email issue, I do wonder how many people actually go ahead and do this as ironically doing so doesn't see the email account with Sky cancelled.

When you try to add your account to Apple mail, what is happening ?

I have added Sky to Apple mail without the app specific password. You may need to choose the yahoo option when adding the email if just adding the email address doesn't work - this is down by selecting Choose from list underneather the email box.

How are the replies unhelpful? I have provided steps & a screenshot of what to do. If you choose not to try all the suggestions then that isn't our fault.

Addendum to my first message;

I cannot select the Yahoo option in the add mail account as it gives me a 'page won't load' message.

Also, selecting the other mail option and selecting 'mail account' will only work with a 16 digit app password which Sky did provide but for some reason (security issues Sky say... pull the other one;-)) will not provide a 16 digit app password.

And, I cannot have Yahoo generate a 16 digit app password as Sky hijacks the link and sends me to a Sky webpage that does not provide any options to generate a 16 digit app password.

It appears that Sky not only will not provide a 16 digit app password but will stop you from getting a 16 digit app password from Yahoo or any other method.

Shame on Sky for causing your customers a lot of hassle for not reason whatsoever!!!

Its up to Sky to bring back the 16 digit app password option or they can treat their customers with contempt!  Their choice!

If using the Yahoo option or just adding the email address & password isn't working then your option is limited to using another email client.
Are you running any VPN or adblocker app on the device which may be preventing a popup?

@FrustratedUser6 regular forum users will be aware from previous posts here that Sky's app passwords can indeed be used inappropriately and cause security issues

Yahoo and Sky app passwords are not the same so access to Yahoo's app password generator would be pointless, hence the redirect when you try to use it for a Sky Yahoo Mail account.

Just what Apple op system are you using, older ones do need a generated password but more recent ones don't.

And Sky don't hijack anything, Yahoo directs you there because it knows you arn't a Yahoo customer.
