sky max router

Good morning at present i am with ee full fibre 900 using ee wifi 7 hub  and 2  extenders we have tapo lights, sensors  and cams a few iot connections  and looking to change to sky max . wifi through speed to apple products is between 800/900 ethernet throughput at max speed .

My question is sky max router wifi as good and compatibility with tapo or would i be better off using a mesh system ,any ideas of what would be best

Thanks Chezzy

@Chezzy1 No problems. Sky may be round the corner with newer, it's not a priority and the wifi 7 is just so much hype, on wifi5 my laptop syncs on wifi at 1733/1733Mb/s, cannot push it that hard but best to date is 2.2Gb/s all internal, Internet is just not important and the FF500 well covers all that would ever be needed currently!

@Chezzy1 like all isp supplied routers the Sky Max hub is built to a cost and has limitations. Not aware of Tapo devices having any requirments that hub cannot meet. By default it producesca dualband SSID which cannot be split into 2 single brands which sometimes require users to temporarily turn off the 5GHz band while they connect devices thst dont like dualband SSIDs. The controls are in the My Sky app so quite easy to use .

It is up to you if you use the hub's wifi or buy a third party mesh system. I had my own Deco system so I use that as my home's layout meant Sky's WiFi Max extenders were slower than my old system. The advantage is that the Deco app allows creation of a separate SSI`d for IOT kit and a guest network which suits my use case.

Re: sky max router

@Chezzy1 Question is why and with a EE Wifi 7 hub, the sky Max wifi 6 is no where near it and the pods are all wifi 5 as extenders in the sky world at present until that gets changed... Are you on the EE Forum let me know what your user name is there!

Re: sky max router

Hi Jim no issues with EE cost seems lower with Sky so no knowledge of the router with Sky although it does seem lower spec than EE

Not on EE forum

Thanks Chezzy

Re: sky max router

@Chezzy1 No problems i support the EE Forum as well, but left them 11 months into the 24 contract as they are clueless and returned back to sky, Fibre service is like for like so no issues at all that way, but your units if Plus/Pro from EE are no where near the sky Spec, so if you are having NO major issues at all with the EE gear you may find the sky Max a little like chalk/cheese....

If you need extenders with EE, you will for NO DOUBT require a few pods of sky, that is your first major as sky DO NOT supply straight away so get it sorted right off if you do end up speaking to them!
