new fibre install

Hi

Im due to have fibre from sky installed.

I did try fibre with another supplier last time. But city fibre came and couldnt do the ducting. They then told the supplier i rfused them to dig a drive up and order cancelled. the order.

I amlikely to run into the same issue again. Now will sky engineers find a proper solution. I need fibre and did not refuse any drive digging.

Why cant they use the same duct that the existing adsl line is in and bring the wire through that.

Also will they install the router where i want it. I want it in a specific room that has all plugs etc and device already there

@sunnysingh88 Sky do not own their own fibre infrastructure indtead they use either City Fibre or Openreach's networks and where City Fibre have coverage they will always use that network. Therefore you are highly likely to have the same issue. Use of a duct the copper phone line uses maybe possible for Openreach but often isn't practical it is even more unlikely City Fibre could do so.

Suspect unless you agree to the proposal from City Fibre's engineers or their contractor for running the line to your property the order will be cancelled. Although both networks try to meet a customers requests there are tight cost and time constraints for the job. You maybe better buying a service from an ISP who dont use City Fibre such as EE or another BT subsiduary. The reason Sky, Talk Talk etc use City Fibre in preference to Openreach where both have coverage is cost and customers do not get to choose

Re: new fibre install

Thanks, i will await their visit again. Issue is that current broadband is FTTC and they are 30 quid a month. Sky are 21 through a deal. Makes no sense to pay more for a older service.

I cant seem to find cheaper FTTC either anywhere or no one offers it. i find the current broadband quick enough.

If city fibre have the same issue then i will look elsewhere on the openreach network or virgin media etc.

If your exchange has been upgraded to FTTP then FTTC won't be an option from anyone. Try putting your postcode in and selecting your address into the following. How FTTP is suplied will be below the table (mine says OH as it comes in through the old telegraph poles), if it says something along the lines of congested duct then that's why they have to dig a new duct. If trying Virgin and there's no existing line to you or perhaps a neighbour (if terraced), then they'll have the same issue.

Out of interest, since you don't have telegraph poles, what would be a better way than to put an underground duct in?

@sunnysingh88 not lazy just working to tight time and cost constraints. You would get a similar response from Openreach as running a new underground supply pretty obviously needs some digging. It is relatively rare that a duct installed with a phone line can be reused even assuming there is a duct in the first place as many phone cables were directly buried in the ground. I had a similar issue with my own install but managed to agree with the engineer a route that avoided crossing a double width drive.

Re: new fibre install

No i dont have a pole nearby. They are on another street which is across a main road and roundabout.

Lat time they visited we discussed about having something on the pavement then digging a small channel via a grass area nearby.

They said its possible but then went and said i refused to dig the drive and order was cancelled.

Im happy for them to dig if they revert things back. My neigbour has similar drive to me and they have done everything for him

Before as the outside unit (CSU) and the internal unit (ONT) have to be in place beforehand.

Re: new fibre install

suprise surpise City fibre could not do this. Now have to wait for civil teams to come over.

Why dont thier normal teams carry more tools etc. I guess until activated i wont be charged by sky for this. i am not paying for something i dont get atm.

If civil cant install the fibre line then is it a case of sky will cancel the order and i go somewhere else.

Might go virgin media as thier cabinet is easier to install in the house.

Re: new fibre install

So the duct is blocked.  Only way is to dig up block paving. Other then that i cant have fibre even from open reach.

Any other suggestions. Thinking of virgin media, a cabinet is by some grass so poss to dig grass up. Digging a 5k drive and city fibre put back not an option.

Is 5g any good. Or i stay on fttc and pay 28 quid for sliw net
