moving ISP need to know WAN details

hi all,

im moving from Zen to sky BB

is anyone on sky here and have they setup there opnsense with it?

ive seen this guide

anything else i need to know

i have googled around and aparently you can type in anything in the dhcp client identifier

 

anything@skydsl|anything

 

is that true?

Yes thats correct. The string that has worked for me in the past is abc12345@skydsl|abc12345

i dont understand then, if you can put anything bogos in the string whats the point of it?

@robertkwild the string doesnt matter anything works but you seem to need the @skydsl section in the user name.

Its about presenting the right format of characters to Sky's authentication servers

but surely anyone without sky can put this string in, then they will get sky BB or no...sorry for the stupid question

 

is there a way to get your actual sky BB username and password then

@robertkwild there used to be a specific log in you could find and use but Sky now authenticate on the line which is connected back to their servers.

I believe if you extracted the actual client identifier string you would get

 

Mac_address@skydsl|last 6 characters of mac address

 

But the one you quoted works fine

what about the other info, do i need them ie

 

dhcp-class-identifier

@robertkwild you shouldn't need anything else just follow the guide you linked to and it should work assuming you are in the UK Ireland is different.

No because your line still needs to be connected to Sky's kit back in the exchange
