change wifi password or just use data package and ethernet

Which of the below would you recommend for better security against 3rd party spy tapping into home wifi -(sky with an old router)? :

  • Use laptop at home on direct connection ethernet as much safer than wifi at home (sky)?
  • whatsapp on phone not (sky) android should be safe on phone as whatsapp states it is encrypted both ends? Unless other person not encrypting.
  •  use data on phone setting  when at home (although wifi available ) and not  the sky wifi. as the 4g system is safer ?
  • Can things go wrong if you change wifi password even for direct connection with the ethernet cable to the home router?

No security is absolute: a key is to figure out if you are facing a state level actor, a well resourced financial criminal operation, a bored teenager or an entirely notional threat.

Not using WiFi locally reduces the potential attack surface significantly if you think North Koreans are parked opposite the house.

There are still multiple theoretical attack vectors in applications, operating systems, websites, the other end of the conversation and points on the way: the question is who would bother exploiting them in any particular case?

Not using an 'old router' is fairly important if local WiFi is in operation though: WPA2-PSK is the minimum, WPA3 preferable.

I wouldn't be too worried about Spy tapping into your home network if your using Whatsapp which is owned by Meta which have a rather spotty past 🤣
