Yet another "Router keeps dropping internet" post

Hi Hopefully someone clever can help. I've looked at loads of discussions here but I don't know what to do still My router keeps dropping connection to the internet constantly (it even just did it when I was trying to post this. I go through the "You connection has dropped" routine and let it restart the router which sometimes works and often doesn't. All cables and connections have been checked thourouly. It's just a cable from router to filter and into BT socket. It wasn't bad until sky sent us a new router SR203 and now it's a constant battle. Please ask if you need any further info. It wouldn't let me post my activity log because it said there were too many 01 -01 00 it's also wont let me post stats properly and has removed invalid html (whatever that means)

@Opticaltrace

Has this connection ever been better?

3Mbs inbound and 0.8Mbs outbound is really bad.

@Opticaltrace

A noise margin of 0.2 suggests something is up. Even on a perfect line it shouldnt be that low

Re: Yet another "Router keeps dropping internet" post

Hi

3Mbs is standard for me I'm afraid. I'm in a very rural out of the way area. It's either that or carrier pigeons.

So is the noise thing something I should be speaking to Openreach about?

@Opticaltrace  No you need to contact Sky as they are your Ineternet provider. Openreach are the network provider,

If someone has helped give them Like.

If you have found this solution helpful please tick this as the answer.

Re: Yet another "Router keeps dropping internet" post

Thanks for the replies, it's much appreciated.

So I spoke to sky this morning and got the usual "we can't see any issues". I asked them to look at my router activity log and they would clearly see all the times it keeps dropping it's  connection to the internet. "sorry sir, I can't do that"

I then tried to tell them about this noise thing that has been mentioned here (I don't really understand this) and the lady just said that if I have a noisy phone line then I need to speak to Openreach. I tried telling her I don't have a noisy phone line but she just kept repeating that there were no issues at Sky end.

I'm really thinking of ditching Sky now, they seem bloody useless.
