Any idea if SKY will be offering Wifi7? I notice EE are.

Im paying for 500 Mbps but only get 150Mbps, i am unable to connect via ethernet, so i hope that Wifi 7 will improve things.

@welshguy2017 given the devices that can use WiFi7 are only just coming to market and the old black WiFi 5 hubs can fully deliver 500Mb/s it isnt a limitation of the WiFi standard. EE are offering this for marketing reasons to persuade the gullable to part with an extra £10 a month.

No matter what Sky hub you have is capable of delivering the full 500Mb/s assuming it is out in the open on a surface so its signal is not blocked by furniture. Every time WiFi signals pass through a solid object like a wall it loses power the denser the object the greater the loss so after say a couple if walls 150Mb/s is about right. Whether you need faster WiFi than thst is down to you but for the vast majority of apps 100Mb/s is more than they can use. Downloads are slower but actually few servers allow unlimited connections.

If you do need faster WiFi thhen you will need additional equipment either by paying Sky fot their WiFi max add-on see https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-wifi-max although the extender pods are only actually WiFi5 ( the Max hub does offer WiFi6) or by buying your own kit. If tempted to do thst you will find WiFi 7 kit is roughly 3 times the price of WiFi6 equipmentwhich is itself several times the cost of WiFi5. By the time domestic users can actually use the speeds WiFi7 offers prices will have dropped considerably.

Re: Wifi 7

Just a small note from me, i got fibre 500 installed and was told my wifi 5 router is fine and capable of full speeds, i tried everything to get top speeds and nothing worked (wifi) maxed out about 140mb, just bought a wifi 6 hub from ebay for £30 and get full speeds over wifi no problem.

@131dom

I use an ASUS BE92U WiFi 7 router, I have around 30 devices connected using wifi including 4 Stream pucks and everything works flawlessly. ISP provided routers and including Sky's own routers are cheaply produced tat.

I'd recommend anyone to invest in a decent quality router.

Re: Wifi 7

Wi-Fi 7 is just a waste of money now unless you running very high speed internet and have many devices that support Wi-Fi 7.

You are much better off spending little money on a mid range Wi-Fi 6 router. I used a TP-Link AX73 for 2 years and recently sold it on Ebay for £35 as I upgraded to a pair of TP-Link Deco X50 for £129.(Part funded by the free £80 gift voucher for joing Sky as new customer)

I also have Sky 500 and both these TP-Link managed quite well.
