WiFi not good enough

Sky say my speed to the house is ok . Their online test of my router times out and says there is a problem. Am only getting 7 mbps which really is not good enough. Was fine on older router till I upgraded. WiFi problem causing problems with intruder alarm settings. Can anyone help?
