WiFi keeps dropping out...

The WiFi keeps dropping out. I've lost count of the amount of times I've reset the router. It was working fine until someone down the road and Fibre connected to their house and now mine is being beyond unreliable. I changed to Fibre because it was meant to be more reliable and faster, only had it a couple of weeks and it's been rubbish. Any suggestions are welcome but I would prefer Sky to get in contact and resolve this for me.

All,

When there are broadband issues between midnight and 7am it could be essential overnight maintenance taking place. It is carried out at those times to minimise disruption and there is no advance warning provided.

See this pinned post at the top of the Broadband board from Sky which could be relevant any night this happens…
https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Broadband/Important-Notice-Scheduled-Broadband-Maintenance/td-p/5151847...

If you have an ONT box displaying a red light, see this further advice…
https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Broadband-Talk/Can-t-connect-to-broadband-and-have-a-red-light-on-your-...

This link provides information about the coloured lights you may see on the various hubs

Hopefully it’s back up and running before 7am. If it’s not, try restarting your hub or post back in this thread and we can try to offer additional advice.

Mines dropped too and has been off for over 15 minutes. For someone who cant sleep due to pain, the Internet is very much needed. Come on sort it out Sky.

Re: WiFi keeps dropping out...

Hi 👋 When I moved our Sky was rubbish, it wasnt reaching the correct speed. I got in contact with Sky and they gave me a booster, for a cost. This still didnt solve it and as I work from home I insisted they came out again. Sure enough another booster was given for a further charge! So far its working. I think its unfair that the speed they said it such reach, wasnt and I have to foot the cost. If I had time, patience and didnt need the Internet everyday for work, id change suppliers. Good luck x

Re: WiFi keeps dropping out...

Maintenance we get but it happening 3 nights in a row is not normal so we should at least be told what is happening, also that whole resetting our routors thing never works as every time I have or unplugged the internet wire out of the wall it still doesn't fix the problem so I end up waiting and hoping it works in the morning. To me that info just seems like outdated rubbish from a old tech manual and nothing against those saying it but it just makes people more bothered having to read that is the only way to fix a problem.

Openreach and therefore ISPs do not announce overnight maintenance and won't tell you why it's taking place.

My post did say try rebooting the hub if it's still down after 7am, in which case maintenance may not be the cause.

@PearlOlive
Start by using this link to check if there are any issues locally that may identify a known fault which could be affecting multiple households ~
https://www.sky.com/servicechecker

Its always worth rechecking it as the Service Checker doesn’t necessarily disclose a problem immediately and there is up to an hours delay before it picks up a lost connection so we tend to advise trying it again later.

If there aren't any then try running the line test here
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/broadband-diagnostic-start
You can also run the test via the MySky app on a mobile data connection.

Once completed, if it reports back that all is okay click on 'broadband' to run an updated test. If you get amber or red you need to follow the on-screen instructions.

If you’re still having problems you may need to report it to Sky. The easiest way is to dial 150 free from your Sky Talk landline (if it’s still working).

Various hub lights; This link provides information about the coloured lights you may see on the various hubs

Red light on ONT?; See this link ~

Working from home?; Sky broadband discussed on here is a domestic service and whilst Sky allow customers working from home to use it, they won’t receive additional or quicker support.
