WiFi fix but £8 a month
Upgraded from 100 to 500 fibre broadband running a PC and 65" Glass TV. PC gets 130 but it is remote via a booster. TV gets 100-120 even though connected via ethernet. Sky solution wasI must pay £8 a month to get it fixed. Anyone else been told they can only have fast speeds if they pay the extra £8 a month??

Re: WiFi fix but £8 a month
@Antony73 130Mbps via a booster is good and well above Skys minimum so i would say thats a non issue.
100Mbps on your Sky Glass is because the Sky Glass TVs ethernet ports are limited 100Mbps due to chipset. There is no requirement for them to exceed speeds of 100Mbps because you'd never need that to stream anything.

Yes.
Also note that even with the WiFi Max subscription supplement the 'guaranteed' wireless speed is 25Mbs.

Re: WiFi fix but £8 a month
Hi TimmyBGood
It gets worse. I have now discovered the Glass TV has a limit of 100, so having 500 cannot sped up the TV download.
Somehow Sky buried this in the Glass TV documentation and when suggesting the upgrade from 100 to 500 forgot to mention it would not deliver 500 from the router and that would not work on the TV they sold me!! Service and transparent truth is obviously not a Sky concept.

A Glass television doesn't 'download' to disk: it streams to the screen. This means it needs enough bandwidth for the maximum data rate required to display UHD content, which is around 30Mbs: having a faster ethernet chipset would make absolutely no difference.
One reason to have 500Mbs FTTP at an address might be to run multiple Glass TVs and Stream pucks all streaming UHD simultaneously, or to permit actual downloading (of gaming content perhaps) without impacting television viewing.
