WiFi disconnecting every 5 minutes or so

My internet disconnects every 5 minutes or so. It's fine when I watch things like netflix or YouTube, as they buffer and can catch up when it reconnects a couple seconds later. But if I play a game or watch a live stream it disconnects and I have to reconnect. I've tested the issue on my home pc, laptop, tablets and phones. It's the same on all devices. I assume there's an issue between by router and the cables outside, wherever they may go. I had virgin media before 125mbps, and the same was happening there. So I switched to sky 500mpbs and it still happens. I understand you can check my internet and it'll seem fine. I've also ran speed checks and the speed is fine, it's the fact that it keeps disconnecting which won't show on a speed check. Personally in my opinion an engineer will have to come out and look into the issue. I also have like 5 cables from previous internet providers and they all run next to each other, can this cause issues? Thanks

@Martinjohnson73 what hapoens to the led on your Sky hub if youbarecusing it see https://www.sky.com/help/articles/hub-lights-explained-max-hub

If the issue was present with your Virgin Media connection it implies an issue is in your home network. What is thecsame between the two set ups?

Virgin Media uses entirely different infrastructure for broadband delivery, so as @Chrisee indicates, if an issue persists after switching then it's likely to be associated with your own hardware, not the ISP kit.

Re: WiFi disconnecting every 5 minutes or so

I'll see what happens to the hub when I get home. But surely the issue can't be my end. If it happens on 2 tablets 1 computer 1 laptop and 3 phones?

Re: WiFi disconnecting every 5 minutes or so

I have issues also, srated 2 months ago,, had 3 hubs, then upgraded to max and same issue, speed tests run fine but cant connect to internet half the time,, there is speed but no life. i am now waiting for a tech to call me as they believe its above what an engineer casn solve,, sky broadband is terrible lately. half my devices connect to wifi and half dont. I believe its a dns / ipv4 or 6 issue but we will see.

Reset the gateway in the router also. it solves the issue for 2 or 3 hours. Very handy if you work from home

Re: WiFi disconnecting every 5 minutes or so

Mine is the same , that means connected. I am sure the issue is ipv6 and the sky firewall or router messing it up. All threads have same issue and it is purely down to sky. I'm waiting for tech to call and will see but I am sure it's an issue sky are aware of and trying to not admit

Re: WiFi disconnecting every 5 minutes or so

I'm not that tech minded but I know it's a sky issue mate. 1000's of complaints of the same thing. It's like sky ran an update last year and it's screwed over half their subscribers. I'm switching to BT and I never thought i would say that lol.. like I say it must be an ipv6 issue as that's all the reported I get when I run personal tests. Sky tests all say everything s fine.

Re: WiFi disconnecting every 5 minutes or so

Damn I've only just switched to sky so I'm under contract. Surely this would break the contract though? If I'm not getting what I pay for?

Re: WiFi disconnecting every 5 minutes or so

Yeah I only upgraded to sky max as they said I had to, to get an engineer booked. It's a 30 day calling off period. I have spoken with multiple agents last 3 days to make sure my problems have been noted. Their last resort is for someone to call me who specialise in thses problems. Then I can leave if it's not solved. I had sky 8 years or more and never an issue till they rolled out max or new routers.

Re: WiFi disconnecting every 5 minutes or so

Has anyone tried plugging a different router in?
