Hi
We have sky ultrafast broadband and are perfectly happy with the speed and range in the house.
We have converted our garage into an office, the garage is not connected to the house.
Our electrician put internet connection into the office so we can plug into a router and attach laptops/exercise bikes to via Wi-Fi.
I'm struggling to find a 3rd party router that I can use with sky and doesn't cost over £300. Does anyone know?
We can't move our current router any closer). The current router is about 12-14meters away from the garage room.
Sky suggested sky max router however the "room to room guarantee" does not include external rooms/buildings.
Can anyone help?

Or if you want a more seemless connection you'd want to get a Sky booster and connect it to the ethernet cable.

To me it sounds like you need an Access point, not a router.

We have an access point. The builders created a tunnel and our electrician extended our current connection into the room.
We are left with an Ethernet cable that can either be plugged into a router or into the back of a computer.
Does that make sense?

Definitely not another router!
An ethernet switch and a wireless access point would be appropriate: £30 rather than £300.

Hi there I have a similar problem I have tried using an old planet router but it interferes with the house WiFi. Is there something specific I should be looking for that will stop the interference

Yes: don't use a router.
If you really want to, then you need to be very sure that its DHCP functionality is switched off and that it isn't using the same IP address as the Sky Hub.

We recently switched from BT to Sky and now have a similar issue with our CCTV DVR box in the attic, which requires a direct Ethernet connection. Previously, we used a BT Mini Connector like this one below. Unfortunately, our DVR box only works with an Ethernet connection, not WiFi, so we need a direct connection and can’t run an Ethernet cable all the way to the attic.
Does anyone have experience with these adapters or a similar solution?

Hi there, I have a similar issue..
We got a garden room built, the electrician ran a cat6 cable from the router inside the house to the garden room.
I have an old Sky router that I connected with an ethernet cable to the cat6 and back into my main router, but not having any joy getting internet out there. Any suggestions?

A repurposed router is almost always inappropriate unless, as a minimum, it's given a different IP address and has DHCP disabled.
Suitable hardware is a dedicated wireless access point, a router running in dedicated access point mode, or a Sky wireless booster.

Thanks for the swift response.
I also have an old Sky Q wireless booster which I used to need for connecting to from Sky Q to a mini box. Is this suitable or are they exclusive to Sky Q TV products?

That might well work, but typically Sky wants them back unless they continue to be covered by a Q subscription.

Still covered - just don't use the additional mini anymore!
So set up should be - main router to cat6 connection point using an ethernet cable, and another ethernet in garden room from the cat6 connection to the booster?
Then if successful, should be able to connect using the same WiFi details as in the house?
thanks for the help!
