Who Will Install?

So I'm moving from Virgin (internet only) to Sky Full Fibre

Who will be carrying out the install? We don't currently have a fibre connection to the house, only a "normal" phone line.

Our go live is in two weeks so should I expect someone from openreach to come before a Sky engineer?

Thanks

@MarcusYorkshire

Sky now has a small number of their own installers qualified for both first and second stage FTTP installations, and a rather larger number for second-stage (fibre-splice and ONT-fit) only.

I suspect the vast majority of first-stage (pole/duct) work will still be carried out by Openreach or an Openreach subcontractor.

Re: Who Will Install?

Hi

Thanks for the info

I just got a chance to look through it before Openreach turned up this morning to install the line, so I'm guessing that a Sky engineer will turn up next week to do the last bits inside the house

Thanks again

Marcus

Could be Openreach or Sky: depends if Sky has a fibre-qualified person within reasonable travel time of your location.

@Chrisee

IIRC Openreach subbing fibre work to Kelly which was a significant factor in that recent unpleasantness with the CWU...

@TimmyBGood the Openreach engineer who did my install said most basic jobs went out to to the subbbies in my area due to the shortage of trained OR engineers who were saved for complex jobs or putting right the subbies messes.

He also told me it was OR policy for their engineers in the medium term to no longer enter end customers homes hence the development with Sky, Vodafone etc developing their own fibre teams. The Sky team we spoke to at Livingston said something similar.
