Hi
just wanting to check something .
I see there is a setting on my router for Auto, DSL only, WANoE only.
I currently have sky brodband so am using the DSL port into my telephone socket.
Am I right in thinking that if I got a new internet provider which included the modem etc ....I could plug the ethernet output of this modem into one of the sky ethernet ports and then select WANoE .....so the sky router would now route internet traffic over the ethernet port to my new modem/ internet service .? ( and not use the WAN/DSL internal modem )

Posted by a Sky employeeIf you got a new internet provider, you'd most likely have to send your router back to us, unless you got it prior to 2016.
That is because all equipment is loaned to you now, unlike before where you'd own it after the 12 month warranty period.

(outlines the required return equipment if you were to leave Sky as ISP)
So no, is the basic answer of your question.

Hi Lisa ,
Aside from having sky broadband a lot longer than 2016 , the issue I have is that I want to keep the sky router because the whole house ( including Q ) is setup to use it. I am thinking Starlink, and would set this to modem mode and plug this into the Sky ehternet wan port . So the Starlink provides the internet and modem ...then SKy does the routing. ( DHCP etc ) .
So the question still stands ...would this work.
Oh and the reason is that the broadband service is now sub optimal ...and welll below the guaranteed speed promise.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreNo. No matter whether the Sky hub is set to DSL or WANoE it will still try and authenticate to Sky's servers using its hardcoded authentication method. When it is unable to do this it will just sit as an usable router with no internet connection. It cannot take a Public/Private IP from another ISP and act as a router/AP.

Thats a real pity. Its not that I really need to keep the Sky router ..( I can rename the SSID and pwd of the Starlink router to the sky one to avoid having to change all my connections )...its just that I think ( and think is the operative word ) , my Sqy Q setup will be much more stable connecting to the real sky router .

I can confirm that it sort of works , sort of doesnt.
I tried it out...had the sky router connected to Starlink via WANoE . The link was there ie, it saw the internet , but couldnt see any of the sky authentication servers and more importantly couldnt see any DNS servers . So whilst it was theoretically connected to the internet....it was useless without DNS. ( I wasn't going to set static DNS settings on all my devices )
