Using a second wifi router on a sky network

Is it possible to add a second wifi 6e router to my 5Ghz Sky router via an ethernet cable so that I can use it as dedicated wifi link just to a quest 3 vr headset

@Daplatt youdo not want two routers on the same network as a rule as devices on the different  networks wont be able to communicate if that isnt a problem then your only concern would be apps running on your Quest head set can run through a double NAT set up which they probably will.

If you add a second WiFi source which is not matched to your Sky hub can cause interference if they use the same or adjacent WiFi channels. You can to some degree control the channels the black Sky hubs use but the newer white Sky hub selects channels automatically. If you have 3 or more Sky Q boxes finding an unused 2.4GHz channel can be impossible.

Obvious question why not turn off the Sky WiFi and judt use the superior WiFi on your expensive new router?

Thanks for your quick response.  Just to clarify:

If I want to use the second router wifi only for playing the Microsoft flight simulator -  I am not bothered about using the quest 3 for anything else, then,  can I use the second wifi, effectively as an extender, and just dedicate it's wifi just to the quest 3 so the high speed wifi 6e signal only goes to the quest 3. I can configure the new router so that it has a different address , say 192.168.0.2 to the sky router which has this address: 192.168.0.1 . This ensures that the second router is on the same network with the Sky router. I would also disable the DHCP setting on the second router. 

I would imagine that it would be very problematic to replace the sky router with the new 6e one because , besides a Q box I have several Mini Q boxes.

Just found your post, and Im looking to do pretty much the same thing. Just wondering if you had any success/ set up tips?

I have:

Sky max 1 ghz router under the telly in living room at front of the house

PC is in dining room which is hardwired to a max pod. The max pod is looking directly at the router 40ft away.

PC spec is Ryzen 5800x, 4070 Super, 32gb ram, with Quest 3

I recently tried to uprgade to the latest 5gigafast+ service. City Link came out and fitted a new box on the wall but the new router on 6ghz chanel couldnt get a strong enough signal to the max pod. Plus I then found out that the max pod tops out at 800gb anyway so...

Three engineers later I decided to go back to the origainal set up but they said just keep the new Gig+ router. So I was thinking if I can use this to make a dedicated 6e network so I can use that just for my Quest 3. 

I can play sim racers fine cos I have a sim rig set up next to my pc and its hard wired, but I want to play HL Alyx, Star Citizen, VTOL, etc over Virtual Desktop in the living room and at the moment they could be better.

@Gooner381 therevis little point in having two routers on one network and you are likely to hit issues if you try to add one as devices connected to one will not be able to see devices connected to the other. You options would seem to be to replace the Sky hub with a third part router that offers the features you want . As you have a City Fibre connection you can use the simpke DHCPv6 PD authentication system which most every router can offer.

Quite why you feel you need multi gigabit speeds to play games is beyond me because online gaming does not require much bsndwidth and issues with latency become far more important and increasing bandwidth wont help,there. WiFi especially with  multiple jumps will add latency which is why keen gamers use Ethernet. Downloads of course do benefit from extra bandwidth assuming of course the server owners dont restrict each connection which many do.

You are correct that the pods are limited to WiFi5 the new hub supports WiFi7 you could simply buy a longer Ethernet cable and move it to a better podition Cat6 should becsufficent.

I'm not sure what 'DHCPv6 PD authentication system' so I will look into that.

I've read many, many posts from VR gamers saying that playing on 6e is essential as VR is so demanding (one example video here) so I ultimately wanted to use the quest 3 headset in the living room, via its app Virtual Desktop to connect to a 6e router in the living room (running a wire to the pc would be impratical as it would cross the halway and I have kids and dogs everywhere!) 

In my max hub I can only see 2 and 5 bandwidths and no ability to seperate whats on which channel. I have the whole familys devices, Alexas, doorbells lights all on this router so I wanted a dedicated 6e chanel/router/access point just for the Quest headset to use.

Can I set it up as its own access point? (whatever that means, lol )

I'm sure you can tell from my wording that I'm beyond my limit of understanding this and this is my first point of this project, so thanks for your time.
