Upgrade question

Sky called me today as i have put a cancellation in for my TV, they have offered me a deal to stay which also included a better deal on my broadband.

Curerntly i have Ultrafast 1 which has been solid since we got it, i have the black SR203 hub, 4 ethernet ports on the back and phone plugged in.  I get circa 140 up and 26 down which is fine for our needs

They have offered me Fibre 300 on a new contract for 24 month, cheaper than my Ultrafast.

Questions:

Will it just switch across from my current speed to the new speed or will an engineer need to come out?

Will they send me the new White router to use?  Only reason i ask this is the black one has been great, wifi in all rooms, i have been reading the forums about the white one (newer one) and it looked like its plagued with problem, i'd rather stay with the back one.

Thanks in advance

@FuriousD If as sounds likely you have full fibre already the change in speed is done remotely. Existing customers do not usually get the white  hub unless they buy the WiFi Max upgrade.

Re: Upgrade question

Thanks @Chrisee  sounds like everything should be as is then apart from a speed jump.

Is it definitely an SR203 used with an associated ONT for FTTP?

There's also the almost identical SR204 for G.fast, which would be plugged onto a master telephone socket.

Re: Upgrade question

@TimmyBGood good point, just checked,  It is a SR204.

Will this make a difference need to change?

I have a master socket 5C and the router is plugged into the G Fast port.

Yes, that makes a substantial difference: it means you'll need installer attendance to put in an optical circuit and ONT, as you'd be moving from G.fast to FTTP with the copper connection and master socket becoming obsolete. .  Although 300Mbs is theoretically possible over G.fast, Sky has never offered that version.

Re: Upgrade question

OK, so not as straight forward as i hoped.

I guess it will mean a new hub as well as an engineer visit too.

Thats an underground feed served by an existing duct and a 1 stage install.  Usually meaning fibre is bought from an outside telecoms "manhole" through the duct and feed to the house where an external box (csp) is installed on the outside of the house. Then drilled thru where an internal ont fibre modem will be installed.  1 stage usually means external and internal work is done on the same day and usually takes 12 days from order to install

Other posts suggest you'd be sent an SR203 as a replacement for the SR204, unless you specifically opt to add the WiFi Max subscription supplement.

Re: Upgrade question

@TimmyBGood

Is this a farily straight forward process these days?  I see lots of comments about Sky G Fast to SKY Ful Fibre being a problem as their wasnt a direct route to do so.  Assume this has been solved these days?

Yep.  The issue has been circumvented and the direct route from g.fast to full fibre is now resolved

@TimmyBGood & @FuriousD I would not be too surprised if you get sent Sky's "conversion kit" which is actually just anshort ethernet cable in a box as the SR204s are the same as the SR203 but with a different modem. By the way one of the Ethernet ports gets used for the WAN link to the new ONT.
